UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem today applied for a license to fight in Nevada in 2013, an official told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

But before he is given the green light, he will need to appear before the state's athletic commission, which will weigh several options before making a decision.

"He will be required per his previous denial to appear before the full commission at the next scheduled meeting, which is Jan. 8," Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer told MMAjunkie.com.

"It will be his burden to prove to commissioners that he should be granted a license to compete in Nevada," Kizer said. "After hearing all relevant evidence, the commission will have the option to deny the license, grant the license unconditionally, or grant the license with conditions."

"or grant the license with conditions"

Random testing (since he'll never volunteer in a million years).

Safety is considered important because of what it would mean, as far as the general public's reaction is concerned, if something serious happened to a fighter.  The fans and public are important for fighter safety, not the people who simply rubber stamp shit into action.

Those "people" are rude and have an entirely undeserved sense of self-importance.  If you appear before a commission and begin to speak respectfully of your own volition and a woman on the panel then orders you to speak respectfully, something you're already doing, just so she can have the pleasure of ordering you to do something, are you going to feel like you should respect those people?

These people have given judging jobs to their boxing cronies and sat on their asses doing NOTHING while problems in the sport persisted that only they had the power to solve.  These people need to do their fucking jobs or be shown the door.

Enough is fucking enough.

Well put, Glovegate. Couldn't have said it any better. One can also look at the Nick Diaz charade to see further proof of how useless these people are.

He looks like he's been on the juice for years, got popped when random test was administered. The sneaking suspicion is that he didn't stop juicing, the althletic commission probably aren't all dumb shits, plus Overeem is a beast of a fighter and quite relevant to the heavyweight division. All that together makes this interesting to follow.

Just figuring if he tests high again, then news worthy. Let's see if he cycled down properly this time. He was awful high last time. I hope he is good to go because I'm curious to see how he'll do. We can all speculate based on this or that, its just going to boil down to how he's been preparing. One of the guys I will anticipate watching due to everything surrounding his situation Phone Post

what would sakuraba do - Seriously, rate for me iyo 1-10 jds' boxing skill. Not mma boxing, but pro boxing. Anyone. Thnx in advance.

Pro boxing is different from MMA boxing. MMA boxing doesn't necessarily require all the same offense/defense strategies. An MMA fighter can succeed brilliantly relying on boxing that a pro boxer would consider average.

Who has a sneaky suspicion that he didn't stop juicing, considering he has been periodically testing for the NSAC since his high level tests?

Sneaking suspicion... as in "he could be still doing it, but who knows if he is and how he may/may not avoid getting caught with neon piss again".

I agree with you and I'm not a fan of everything the commission does. I know that they are on top of a high horse and the way they hand out suspensions with respect to pot is outrageous. But testing and penalizing people who are suspected of putting actual PEDs into their body while competing in a combat sport is important to fighter safety. If I've been mislead and that's not at least a part of what they do then sorry I was wrong to stick up for them. Phone Post

Didn't Overeem miss a test in a Nevada a while ago under the excuse that he had to fly back to Holland to see his mom, who was sick or something...? And, then, didn't he take some tests in Europe that were "mishandled"...?

The guy was licensed with conditions before and was busted.

Anyways, both Cain and JDS defeat him soundly.

Below average boxer vs superlative kickboxer/mmaist. Hard to call aint it? . . . Your whole entire arguement is "chin", isnt it?

He doesn't need to make an argument. All you need to do is look at Overoid's record. He's never faced anyone like JDS, and every great MMA striker he has faced has knocked him out (unless he dry-humped them and submitted them).
