Until you get caught after taking a fight that you weren't prepared for. Then they stop paying you $1,000,000 pretty quickly. Phone Post
Yeah but I don't think like that. I'd just want to fight and get paid if I were jones. Btw he'd already been training to fight dan it wasn't like he wasn't fight fit. Phone Post

Everyone is a "fighter" until they make it big. When you get to the top of the mountain that is when you have to start using your head and not just your heart. That is what keeps you at the top. Something very few people will ever understand because they have never been there.

nhb/ufc used to be about fights.  now mma is a sport with pro athletes and its about money and a sport.

whjy is anyone suprised about jones' comments.  He is probably one of the best athletes I have ever seen in my life; but he is not a "fighter" IMO.  flame me, vote me down, i dont care..he is the lebron james of mma, more athletic and bigger/longer than anyone else.  not even fun to watch sometimes.

Im as old school as anyone here, I miss Pride but not everything about it. NHB/UFC also used to have guys who couldnt "figt" very well and came in out of shape and under-prepared.

Jones comes to "fight" every time. Just because he's not willing to risk a big set back in his career in a nothing to gain/everything to lose scenario on short notice doesnt mean he's not a "fighter." He's had one of the very best list of opposition of out any fighter over the last 2 years and been one of the most active of the champs/top fighters.

Are Machida and Shogun also not "fighters" since they turned Jones down on short notice?

There is nothing "not fighter'ish" about wanting proper time to prepare for your opponent so you will be fully prepared to "fight" come event time.

And Im super tired of the "more athletic and bigger/longer than anyone else" thing. It is dam fun to watch some as creative and as good as Jones in every facet of the game and to continue finishing guys. We've seen plenty of bigger and longer guys never come close to developing the game and that Jones has.

Excellent post.

Jones comment shows exactly what's wrong here. It's all about the money, it's a business now.

Am I the only one who sees nothing wrong with Jone's statement?

The man is making $1m each fight, because of his contiunued success.

A fight against Chael would only net him $1m if he won. If not, he loses his appeal, and his income gets cut in half.

He's earned the right to a full training camp if he's risking his $1m per fight career path.

That's what I took from it.

Cerrone is a fun guy to watch fight, his standup impressive as fuck I point him out to non MMA fans as a guy to watch for a good fight.

but I wouldn't take life or career advice from him. I wouldn't even want to hang out with him, Jones either to be honest.

Why is Cerrone talking shit about a guy he'll never have to fight?

What part of the game is it where it's cool to run to the media and shit on your teammates?

Hey Cerrone, concentrate on your own fight career. Keep your mouth shut about a guy who has done nothing but whoop the shit out of anyone who has stepped in the cage with him.

I do not like as a person jones, but that doesn't matter i like to watch him fight.

This a conversation between teammates, yes jones sounds douchey but who knows the dynamic and how it was phrazed by cowboy, it might of justified a douchey comment.

Cowboy is up front and has been criticized for being confrontational by other fighters.

Also this is milk that has already spilled.

What Jones said is not incorrect or something to get upset about when looked at in a vacuum. The reason people get upset is because instead of just saying it and letting it be. He says "I want to fight someone with draw power, high risk low reward is not worth it" perfectly fine. Then he goes and says "it's not about the money it's about earning it."

Flushes everything down the toilet for himself.

Keep in mind this was at a UFC Q and A, he was asked directly. For those people questioning why he would even say this. I love Cerrone's attitude. He's a fighter and getting paid to fight is just a bonus. Not so much an athlete who see's that there is money in fighting.

Jone's decision was right for him and wrong for other's. It doesn't matter. He's full of himself and honestly, he's entitled to it cause no one even comes close to him in the cage, it's not an imaginary view of himself like so many dipshits we know, it's a FACT. Until someone puts a beating on him he's entitled to it.

That being said, I'm a Cerrone guy over a Jones guy every day of the week.

goes to show you how his own teammates feel about him, good to see that the people inside his circle think he's a douche and not just the fans from the outside...

I hope Cerrone gets his title shot, not sure if Benson will lose anytime soon, but I like that he can challenge his teammate, in what seems like a respectful way.

I can see why Jones didn't take that fight, but I still think that he should have. "The Champ" should mean you never back down from a fight... ever.

(a young) Bas Rutten would have taken the fight, I know that much. The old days we had real fighters...who were fighting and not even getting paid much, if at all.... and now we have a sport... I guess we just have to deal with that. Jones played it smart perhaps, but he didn't gain any new fans from his decision, and the fallout for the UFC was disasterous with the cancelled event...

The two guys are just wired differently. Cowboy would risk his fighting career to ride bulls and do any other crazy, fun thing he wanted until Zuffa prohibited it. Jon wants to protect his status and position as a fighter. Nothing wrong with either mindset IMO.

why do people keep riding on this "in the old days we had real fighters" thing?

Did anyone in the "old days" face Bader, Shogun, Rampage, Machida, Rashad and Vitor and crush them all outside of Rashad who he still dominated in the span of like 19 months?

Nobody as in you. That is "nobody".
Clever comeback but it's well known most people don't have respect for the way her carries himself. Drunk driving with two women in his back seat at two in the morning while his fiance is at home after he does interview after interview saying how good of a person he is and how he would never get caught drinking. I order every UFC and always enjoy watching him fight but outside of that I would never say I'm a fan.

Just my personal opinion. Phone Post

isn't getting compensated a lot more money, more reason to take the fight? i guess in Jones' eyes, it's less a reason.  not sure the logic there.  "If i only made 100K to fight, i'd have taken it, but I get 10x that much, so where's the incentive???"
