Interview with UFC: Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Charlie "The Spaniard" Brenneman who holds a professional mixed martial arts record of 15 wins and 5 losses. He will be competing at Valley Fight League 40 January 19th at the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona, Pennsylvania

How did you get in to the sport?
It was a natural transition from wrestling

What's your favorite strike/submission to use in any fight?
I'm a big fan of ground and pound

Who is your biggest inspiration?
My inspiration comes from within.

Which team are you training with in preparation for your next bout?
AMA Fight Club

What is your favorite aspect of MMA? (grappling, striking, clinch work, etc.)
I love the close quarters - wrestling, grappling, clinch

What does it mean (for you) to be a fighter?
It really doesn't mean a certain thing, it is just what I am; the job and life I chose.

What separates you from every other fighter
No one else has my mind and heart.

What do you want to be remembered for at the end of your career?
To be a fighter who maximized every bit of talent he was given.

Thus far what is your greatest accomplishment in the sport?
Beating rick story live on national tv as the UFC Co-Main event

Your nickname is "The Spaniard" how did you get your nickname?
I was a spanish major in college, and former spanish teacher.

How do you spend your time when you're not training for a fight?
I enjoy being w/ my family as much as possible. i live in nj, so I get home to PA as much as possible.

Were your family and friends supportive when you decided to enter the world of MMA?
Yeah, I've been fortunate to have a very good support system the entire way through my athletic career.

Whats your gameplan for 2013?
My plan is to start a new career at a new weight

He's fighting one of my former "former cause i don't really trane UFC anymore" training partners in Eric Irvin Jan 19th.
Trained with Eric through his Amateur Career and he's a tough dude.

Big opportunity for Eric if he can pull the upset.

Your former "former cause i don't really trane UFC anymore" training partner, Eric Irvin, is in for a tough fight.

Charlie comes back to the UFC at 155 by the end of 2013 with 3 consecutive wins behind him. Calling it now.

Charlie is a very talented athlete and I expect to see him back in the UFC very soon, does anyone know if Valley Fight League will be showing the fight live online?

I love the Spaniard.  He's a complete swetheart and his spanish is REALLY good.

 

I'd love to see him back in the UFC.
