CALGARY’S GRIZZLY CAGE TO HOST TRIO OF POPULAR CANADIAN MMA FIGHTERS FOR CLUB OPENING SATURDAY
UFC Vet Roland Delorme, and Bellator Vets Ryan Ford and Chris Horodecki Slated for All-Day Fan and Media Event Jan. 19
Calgary, AB - Saturday’s grand opening for Grizzly Cage Combat Sport Club and Venue is a bittersweet celebration for owners Darcy Irwin and Wayne Richardson. The destination at the end of the long and trying road the Calgary couple took to see their dream business through to reality is finally in sight and along for the ride will be three of Canada’s most popular mixed martial artists to help them cut the ribbon and celebrate.
Winnipeg native Roland Delorme, Edmonton’s Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford, and London, Ontario fighter Chris Horodecki will all greet fans and talk to the media about their fight careers and the a state-of-the-art 17000 square-foot training facility and live events venue located at 625 28th St. NE.
A veteran of The Ultimate Fighter reality series, Delorme (8-1, 1 NC) is quickly making a name for himself in the UFC’s Octagon, where he is undefeated in three starts, including submission wins over Josh Ferguson and Nick Denis and a “no contest” in his most recent fight against Francisco Rivera at UFC 149 in Calgary this past July.
Arguably Alberta’s most popular fighter, Ford (19-4), whose brash style and attitude coupled with his impressive finishing rate (17 of his 19 wins have come by submission or knockout) have garnered him one of the largest and most dedicated fan bases in MMA. He finished off 2012 with a perfect 3-0 record, including two under the Bellator banner.
One of the four founding members of the late Shawn Tompkins’ revered Team Tompkins fight team, which also includes Sam Stout and Mark Hominick, Horodecki (18-4-1, 1 NC) has fought for the IFL, WEC, Bellator and the Score Fighting Series. The 25-year-old has been described by former IFL coach and UFC legend Bas Rutten as being a young prodigy with more potential than most fighters he has worked with – a huge compliment considering the breadth of talent Rutten has encountered in his 20 years in the sport.
Saturday’s free event is open to the public and the media and will include live demonstrations, an autograph session, refreshments, giveaways, and discount membership sales. Doors open at 10:00 am. The grand opening will run until 4:00 pm.
