I Just recently moved to a new area and I am researching some BJJ schools for myself and my two sons. I found one that seems very promising.

It is a Walter “Cascao” Vital affiliate school. I did some quick research online but am looking for someone to maybe give me insight I can't find online.

Has anyone competed with him, spent time with him, or gotten to know him in a way that could give me an understanding of his personality/philosophy?

Also, there is allot about his accomplishments but little about his lineage. Can any of you give me more details of where he came from?

Does anyone train at/know of other affiliate schools, and can you describe to me your experience with them?

Thanks!

Sorry that this is pretty late. Yes I go to a Cascao affiliate school in Michigan. He has visited twice in the year that our gym has been open and he is absolutely amazing in every way. First thing you need to know is that he rolls with EVERYONE. When he comes to visit he loves to work on everyone's game individually by spending 1 on 1 time with everyone. He teaches his higher level students that open his affiliate schools to do the same. I train under Cascao brown belt Victor Torres and purple belt David Pawlus and they are extremely helpful. Cascao also likes for his students to compete and is great in preparing us for tournaments.

Mario Sukata didn't get a black belt from Carlson Gracie. He got it from Gutenberg Mello.

Mike are you sure about that? Because I'm not 100% sure but that's what I've been told. Not that it makes a difference to me. I've rolled with Walter and know how legit his game is. and his teaching methods are top notch also.

I'm not saying the dude isn't legit. He is, but he got his bb from Guttenberg Mello. Guttenberg is a Carlson Gracie bb. Phone Post

Ramibaba - if you don't mind me asking, where did you hear that from?
Whelps, I used to do a website for Carlson jr and I have a list of all senior and juniors blackbelts. And Sukata isn't on them. So I googled his name and a link to Bjj heroes came up where a dude asked why Sukata wasn't listed as a Carlson bb and a dude replied because he got it from Gutenberg Mello. Gutenberg is an old school Carlson bb Phone Post

The extent of my interaction with him is the one year he wore mutton chops to ref and looked like Sabertooth had a love baby with Wolverine. If that's not a reason to affiliate, I dunno what is.

I have known Walter for 7 years. He still actively competes and is a die hard supporter of his students. He is phenomenal at wrist locks and has a hard nosed game of pressure and more pressure. His school may be older and without all the bells and whistles but if you live on the East side of Vegas and don't try his school you would be doing yourself a disservice.

Bryan Glenn
