What do you guys think about the UFC 125 division? Heard this today " I believe under no circumstances should a full grown adult male weight 125 lbs." I cant say I disagree. I dont even know many women who weigh that. No wonder that division is not taking off and likely never will. It's like elementary kids fighting.

You don't know anyone that weighs 150 lbs? That is what a 125er will walk around at, sometimes more. Phone Post

125 is 140 walking around, before cut.

I know people that should be that. But seeing as everyone in America is overweight, there are plenty of 160-175lbs chubby people. Also, short people. 5'6 and shorter people do exist. 5'6 with 10% body fat or lower is rare, with the exception of athletes.

Make no mistake, the flyweights are world class athletes and would certainly whoop your ass. The worst part is, they would never get tired of doing it.

Your brother and skinny rocker dude could both fight at 125 potentially, most avg people aren't dieting/training like pros and aren't concerned with cutting to a certain weight class. When I was 20 (I am 25 now) I was partying and eating whatever I wanted and got up to 163. I now fight at 135 and my coach says I actually should be at 125! The cut to 135 is easy for me once I get in shape. I am a short guy though, 5 foot 5. Phone Post

Im 139-142 right now, couple years ago I was as light as 133. I have lots of friends in the 135-150 range, and lots in the 5'3"-5'8" range. I even have a friend that is 5'4 tops, and weighs 322.

As above thats 135 at least in the cage, which is rooster weight in Bjj, a little bigger.

Even in Japan there aren't that many guys in the gym at that weight.

According to Ian McCall he was 150 before he bought Mighty Mouse the second time, so no, not even the 125er pros are near 125 pounds.

Too many people I know "brag" about how much they eat, it's ridiculous. The food pyramid and the whole "clean your plate off" bullshit is why so many kids grew up overweight.

Umm...what if he's short? Is short and morbidly obese an improvement over short and jacked?

People don't cut weight in real life. All light heavyweights are basically heavyweights, most heavyweights don't cut weight other than Reem or Lesnar, and cutting weight seems odd for fist fights. Phone Post

I know a few guys who weigh around 140 or so but if they were 5'2 or 5'3 they'd be 125ers... As for people saying no man should weigh 125 well, people cut weight for fights and some people are just small and that's the way it is. Doesn't mean they shouldn't be fighting.

lol, Americans.

Seriously though, Mike has a point.... well unless we're talking REALLY short guys, ~5ft and under. Even guys like Pacquiao grew into a 140-150lb frame.

Now, if we're just talking about weight divisions, he's off-base. Dodson and MM cut weight from the 140s and are hardly unhealthily built.

The division is shallow right now because it's less than a year old on the big stage (with big money). Give it time. Smaller 135ers will make the cut, more guys will crossover from wrestling and what not. There's also a growing MMA scene in Asia, where there's no shortage of smaller guys in their teens and 20s getting into MMA.
