hey dana

make a celebrity TUF season

get 16 celebrities. put them in the house. teach them mma and have them fight.

send me a cheque when the ratings go through the roof.

Zombies are huge these days. Maybe we can do celebrities vs zombies.

Gold Jerry. Gold!

I predicted this last year. Chael bones was not enough. Need to have coed tuf and inject more strategy. Phone Post

This season is a much better format. Getting tired of the frat house nonsense. Chael sells it right, a tough tournament with fantastic athletes.

Lookin forward to it, by the way, LOVED your reaction to Uriah Hall KO'ing Adam Cella. Everyone goes quiet and you yell "ARE YOU FUCKIN SHITTING ME?" (atleast thats what I think you said) I laughed so long at that!

I expect the KO and the media stir it has created will bring in new viewers for subsequent episodes. I didn't think that the promotion of it before the show was anything out of the norm or expectation for similar TUFs and couldnt have had that much of an impact.

Either way, nice to hear the quality of the show has picked up and hope it continues along this trend.

Its a marathon, not a sprint. I dont think its realistic to change it up and expect everyone to jump back on board instantly.

I grew tired of TUF seasons ago. At first I'd just fast forward through the faux-drama and watch the fights. Then I was just forwarding through the fights to look for highlights. Why? I didnt care about these guys. I wasnt compelled to see what they were capable of and didnt care who won. They all seemed the same. And then I just stopped watching.

Only just now have I realized they have truly changed the formula up for the better this season, despite the fact that I've been hearing some good things. My interest is peaked and Im going to start catching up this week. If the show can create a personal connection between the viewer and the fighter, without being boring, then people will start watching again and continue to follow it week to week, and then into the finale, and then into PPVs. I love the sport, and hope they can do this. 'TUF' has come to represent the opposite of what I want MMA to represent over recent years, and they need to fix this, as its a brilliant strategy to secure marketshare and keep things mainstream

Ok I just watched the episodes of this season so far and I got to say, I'm impressed. They are going away from that mtv/vh1 real world jersey shore bullshit they been feeding us for 8 years. Its just about up their witu the contender. And for shits n giggles I watched the primetime for lizzy and lousey, very big improvements on that show also. Not no hbo faceoff or 24/7, but definitely going in the right direction.

Of course it continues to fall. You can polish a turd all you want....

It's the very reason why Dana had to say "HEY LOOK AT THIS KO!!!"

Have to try and keep people interested vs actually changing things lol.

fat referee -

i love MMA and I love Dana but TUF's got to go, nothing gold can stay.

We are in a renaissance era, Pony Boy. There is absolutely no valid reason to end this franchise. Is it losing money for the UFC? No. Is it still creating fighters people want to see? The last few seasons have been hit or miss, but it looks like this season will be a definite yes. And most importantly, have the producers shown that they are willing to adapt and try a new style and format that the fans have been demanding for years? That is a resounding YES.

The word of mouth is spreading. To use a dumb analogy, TUF is like Dominos pizza. It grew stagnant after a while just using the same recipe and then they did a complete overhaul. While the commercials were important for Dominos new menu, word of mouth was key. They eventually saw over 14% sales growth in the first quarter. (We were just talking about this in class ... Sorry.) I watched the first 6 or so seasons pretty religiously, but I haven't watched regularly for years. That changed when I started watching this season. Production is much better and different than I have seen. I'm watching every episode this season. You may want to give it another try. Phone Post

the story of the KO has been on front pg of Yahoo for a couple of days.

very popular...

if you go to yahoo and type Uriah in the search box, Uriah Hall pops up first.

Dana is right that many writers overemphasize the overall viewership when the demo ratings are more important. That being said, the show did not set or break any meaningful records in the demo. But TUF and Bellator were both up in the key demos (M18-34 and M18-49) this week

this is the best season yet... it's like watching MMA's version of "any given sunday".

as far as the ratings go... it's pretty much the same numbers as when spike placed tuf on tuesday nights at 9pm. the brock/jds season has about the same average as this season. the brock season went as low as 1 million... let's see if we get to that with this one.

the most important factor for the UFC is that it seems they have stopped the bleeding that was caused by being buried on friday nights and on fuel... and the UFC's audience has come back. we're now seeing record UFC ratings on FX (fight nights, prelims, and tuf). The most important factor for the UFC was to get their audience back.

When they move to fs1, tuf needs to be placed on wednesdays at 10pm (which is the best slot for it) along with replaying it throughout the week. Also, Big fox needs to replay it as well on tuesdays at 11pm (to promote the new episode the following day on fs1) instead of airing silly reruns.

tuf's debut episode was replayed on big fox and it got 1.2 million viewers on saturday night 11pm.

if FS1 can get 1 million plus every week and the fox replay 1.2million... the UFC will be golden.

bisping vs miller aired at 10pm on wednesdays. brock vs JDS aired at 9pm on tuesdays... this season is pulling pretty much the same as the brock vs jds season on spike. is it because they are on the same timeslot? obviously it's not a coincedence.

also consider that UFC was spikes flagship product. tuf is an afterthought for FX.

if they gave tuf the wednesday night 10pm slot they'd pull around the same numbers as bisping/miller pulled on spike.

now that the UFC is moving to fs1 where they will be a flagship product, and where they will likely get the best timeslots (wednesday 10pm) and where they can concentrate most of their first run ufc content cross promoting each other (like they had on spike bur more) we'll see the UFC establish an audience bigger than the one they had on spike.

I don't really care about ratings, this is the highest quality show I've seen, ever. I think word of mouth from the KO of Hall will generate more viewers. Either way, it doesn't change the fact that this show is extremely good. Much better talent, and more about the fighters, training and not about the unnecessary drama.
