Will the olympic decision have an affect on the amount of people who pursue wrestling in college? Or will people train wrestling in order to cross over into MMA?

I think so, in general inclusion in the Olympics is a major boost to any sport that has no pro league.

MMA may help offset some of that in terms of popularity and participation, but to be an elite level wrestler your interest has to be more than just cross training.

I think this blow for martial arts in general if you ask me.

Very little IMO. Colleges & High Schools will still have teams. Participation in folkstyle wrestling at all levels has grown the past 10yrs, despite less than stellar Olympic results.

This will affect the small group who actually wrestle freestyle or greco and the even smaller group who are olympic quality. The bigger impact will be felt in eastern europe, middle & far east were freestyle & greco are their primary styles.

This!

Moreover, college wrestling is still a ticket to a free education.

Will it stay as high of a priority without Olympic recogntion, though?

This. It starts REAAAAALLLY young and in many regions it's a cultural event. Thoughts of the Olympics were never on the forefront ESPECIALLY now with MMA.

It means a greater influx of wrestlers to MMA out of college is what it means.
