Good luck getting a fight in Ontario.........shows have pretty much dried up since Score was bought out and the debacle in Belleville.

Maybe try Wreck MMA in Gatineau, they have a show coming up in March. Might want to downplay his accomplishments though, they generally just look for cans to fight OAMA guys.

On a lighter note, there may be some promotions to pick up the slack in Ontario and Quebec soon. There should be some announcements within a month.

"Forgive my ignorance but what was the debacle in belleville?"

The Belleville Discipline MMA show had a lot of extrinsic issues that weren't made public that led to poor attendance, including the commission not approving a number of matches and the military who were supposed to buy a large block of tickets for soldiers on the nearby base(as part of the proceeds were to go towards building the Highway of Heroes Wall of Honor) and the city of Belleville promoting the show. Promises weren't kept and Ken Hayashi pushed back like he has with every show in the province to date.

People like to point fingers at the people involved in organizing the event, but they shouldn't have to shoulder all of the blame.

Incredible how Hayashi, who fought the sanctioning of MMA in Ontario for so long now has made it financially difficult for any MMA to occur in Ontario.

It's almost like he managed to make it easy for the UFC to put on a show since they have the money, but no one else. Thereby making it look like he actually conceeded to the will of Ontario's residents when the polititions pushed him.

Look everyone, the UFC came to Ontario! We got what we wanted???

Bingo, Dougie.

Keep in mind, the UFC is a very self-sufficient organization. They look after a lot of things (i.e. medicals etc.) that the OAC would normally have to do and the % they pay is much higher than a regional show would AND their shows are held in Toronto, eliminating the need for Hayashi et al to travel.

Yes, that was the point I was making. Hayashi bent to the will of the political requests but did it in a way that screws everyone but the UFC.

The polititions saw how much money the UFC brought in and asked why it wasn't happeneing in Ontario and also a way to appease the many people asking for it.

Hayashi made out like he was following the will of the people and political powers but in reality he was just letting the noose get a little loose.

Do you really think that these prices will come down to put on a show? No. He's going to keep them just as high. When it's not longer needed to bring in outsiders at huge costs to run these shows he's going to charge the same amount for local guys and why? Because that's what they paid the other guys is what he'll claim.

It will never get cheaper to put on shows with Ken Hayashi at the helm of the OAC. He'll claim it's safety issues, and a million other things that he can legit hide behind, but in the end, this guy will still be the worst thing for combat sports and will have held them back in Ontario so that we're DECADES behind the rest of Canada and GENRATIONS behind the rest of North America.

When Kathleen Wynne came through my town I managed to ask her why Ken Hayashi was still the head of the OAC and she just had no answer at all. I'm still waiting to hear back from her office as she said they would get back to me on how he should be replaced. I openly told her that I think Yves Lavigne should replace Hayashi. Of course she was just humouring another citizen with a specialized request, but rest assured. I won't go away.

I didn't go away a decade ago when we didn't have MMA and Hayashi was killing this sport and I won't go away now that he's still pissing on our backs and trying to convince us it's just raining. Unlike everyone else from back then who got offered spots in media, mma promotions, and gov't positions and suddenly shut up about being vocal about it, I am still talking. We all should be.

This bullsh*t about taking the scraps that Hayashi and co are offering us and being greatful doesn't fill my belly. We should live like lions feasting on a buffet of mma but instead we've settled to living like Oliver Twist with our bowl head out and begging, "Please sir, I want some more."

Disgusting.

Hayashi is the ONLY Athletic Commissioner that I know of that isn't elected. He has a cushy salaried government position that pays the same whether he regulates one, or 101 shows per-year.

I've spoken with people at the government level who say that Ken justifies the outlandish costs associated with holding a show here (which by my research are 10x as much as Nevada charges) as being due to risk management, which is a popular word amongst bureaucrats since no politician in their right mind would ever resist something that could possibly save them from a lawsuit down the road. The problem is, the sanctions and overblown financial terms he requires promoters to meet are beyond overkill. Every athletic commission partakes in a certain amount of risk management. That's there job. If they don't do there job, they're replaced. Unfortunately Hayashi thinks he's untouchable.

The tides are turning though,  and the powers that be are digging into exaclty what it is Ken does on a day-to-day basis and why there are no shows booked yet in Ontario this quarter. The reason is it's too expensive and there is too much resistance from the OAC when it comes to getting fights sanctioned. In my 8 years as an MMA journalist I have never spoken to Hayashi, and believe me, I have tried more times than I can count on both hands and feet. He's like the Wizard of Oz. The only thing that is going to change things is public inquiry and for the media to pull back the curtain and shine a light on this travesty. Why shouldn't we elect a commissioner like every other province and state?

People have to call or write or e-mail their elected MPP and ask why we cannot elect our own OAC Commissioner. Inthe 10 years I have been talking about this issue I got ONE letter in response from Ken Hayashi.

The position should have minimum standards that it must meet in overseeing so many events per year. I imagine that if they based his pay off how many events were held we'd see MMA every weekend somewhere or even daily.

It's not like there is a huge push to help amateur shows at all either.
