If they did, he would've won round 1 and 3 easily.

This is why mma judging is completely weird. Sometimes octagon control is calculated and sometimes it is not.

You're weird. He was not in control of the octagon. And its always "calculated" but not exactly a science in quantifying esp considering you "calculate" it in context with other factors.

If you a mosquito flies into a spiders trap, it may be going forward, but this does not negate the fact it flew into a trap.

The exchanges happened when and how Machida wanted them to, and that's the definition of control. Phone Post

I don't think Dan was in control of any part of that fight.

And I'm a fan of Henderson. Phone Post

Machida won the fight, of the top 20 strikes landed in that fight, Machida probably landed 18 of them.

Dan walking forward (ineffectively) doesn't change that.

That's how Rampage got the nod over Machida.

Lol what octagon control? If he stifled Machida's movement by pushing him against the fence or controlling him on the ground, then maybe. But Machida did whatever he wanted to.

Umm before posting this crap maybe you should look at Hendo's face and Machida's face. If you put them side by side and ask anyone who won they would say Hendo just look like he got beat up, the Machida guy looks like he didn't even get hit.

In what world does walking forward throwing punches at the air while getting counter punched in the face equal octagon control? Phone Post

Ditto - not every fight (especially at the title contention level) is going to be an instant classic.

Winning was the name of the game last night; finishing the fight was a distant second to both fighters. A title shot is on the line; both men are at the top of the contender's list; both have proven they can finish top 10 LHWs; and finally: they both had months to game plan this fight. I guess I was surprised that people expected a different type of fight.

Dan said he was going to limit Machida's movement and not allow him to counter, cut the corners, and pressure him the entire fight in numerous *pre-fight interviews*. He said flat out that he did not execute that game plan in the *post fight press conference*.

So the analogy fits perfectly; Machida's game plan didn't win the fans, but it won him a shot at the belt. If he beats Jones (certainly looked possible during their first fight in R1!), the bandwagon will start up again.

Octagon control or being aggressive does not or should not outweigh effective counterstikes that land on its target, regardless of how little damage those counter strikes might produce.

The only time (IMO ) that being agreesive counts for something is when everything else is equal, then the guy being aggressive should get the nod. Phone Post

Done and done.

OP is out of his.mind if he thinks hendo was in control of the "location and pace of the fight". Phone Post

Walking forward while getting picked apart is NOT a form of control.

When two fighters are circling each other but not throwing very many strikes its my opinion that there is a good deal of time when nobody is doing anything significant enough to have octagon control.

Overall Machida did dictate the fight even though Dan tried hard not to let him.

In the second and third they both came out looking a tad gassed and had significant periods of time where nobody threw a strike or did anything but feint. Phone Post
