Captfireeyes - Lamas has earned his shot. If Pettis wants a title fight it should be at 155, you know, the division he's actually fought in... Phone Post
Just like Edgar, Chael, and probably Cormier? Anyone upset with Pettis getting a shot at FW has to be upset about any fighter getting a title shot outside of "their" division. Phone Post
People were pretty upset about those. It's about keeping the sport from turning into random title fights without going on a title run to get it. It makes no sense to pull the top contender from one division that doesn't have another one, and move him into a title fight in a division that has a top contender already Phone Post
I'm pissed that Chael is getting the shot. In regards to Edgar, people have been saying he should move down for years, he's a former defending champ at lightweight and I believe he won the second fight with Bendo. That was a "super fight" and it got put together once Koch got injured iirc. The first mention of Pettis moving down and challenging Aldo came out of no where. Had people been saying Pettis should move down and fight guys his own size, you'd be right. As of right now he is the #1 contender at lightweight, should he not fight for that title first? Phone Post
Exactly. It's unnecessary and it screws up 2 divisions. There's just no need for it. Aldo seems to care about the legitimacy of his division and belt. The belt shouldn't just be a promotional tool.

I respect Aldo for standing up to this, basically doing what everyone his division is saying. I hope a lot of the other mma fighters get vocal in their support, especially the other featherweights. Phone Post
When Cormier beats Mir and is gifted a title shot at LHW, you guys here should get really hot about it. Maybe Jones will refuse, how great would that be?! Phone Post
I'd be in full support of that. There's already a couple of top contenders at 205. Phone Post

Jon Jones put his foot down once.

This is true, and he destroyed 151: Jon Jones and the Foot of Doom. Phone Post

I won't keep quoteboxing; I don't necessarily disagree with you, but Aldo needs to realize that he's in a ppv driven industry and the more eyes on the product the better. More people would pay $60 for Aldo/Pettis than Aldo/Lamas. There's no honorable way for a champion to refuse challenger and this isn't a short notice thing.

Personally, I feel like Pettis should stay at LW but him and Aldo sounds like a damn good scrap and I really want to see it. Phone Post

Pancake Syrup - I hate it when a guy jumps up or down weight classes and automatically gets a title shot. Even if you're a champ i think you should always need 1 fight before fighting for the title. Lamas vs Pettis would be perfect. Good for Aldo for rejecting it even though he should have done the same for Frankie
Just about agree with you except for the champ bit. I think if you're champ and you step up or down you should be able to fight for the title.
Love the Aldo vs pettis fight by the way. All politics aside. Phone Post

The title picture in the lw div was fucked with all the rematches. (Penn/Edgar, Edgar/Maynard, Edgar/Henderson) I don't blame Pettis at all for wanting a crack at Aldo. Plus, he has a better chance at dethroning Aldo than any of the 145ers. IMO, Aldo is scurred. Aldo won't be able to bully Pettis. You fight who your boss says or Gtfo. Phone Post

A champion refusing a fight in his own weightclass isn't a good thing. Especially when he's turning down the more dangerous opponent. Phone Post

He didn't bitch at all over Edgar who came off back to back losses at 155, but he's making a stand against Pettis??

It's just more Soares camp garbage of trying to pick and choose the easiest fights.

What do you think other fighters are thinking watching this happen? They are thinking they will try the same thing. Before you know it the UFC will be just like Boxing where everyone tries to pick and choose fights to pad their records and game the system.

The one positive glimmer the UFC has beneath all of their oppressive contract BS is that they can force guys to fight, but they aren't doing it.. they are letting guys like Anderson and Aldo make the rules.

LOAN VIPER -  Why not make pettis fight lamas for title shot?

If hes that much better than Ricardo then why not?! Phone Post

Dana wants to make the fight that will generate the most dollars.
Then why not have Honda and Cyborg fight at 145? Phone Post

This is a challenger moving down to face the champ.

How does this support Ronda moving up to face a challenger?

If it's the dollars thing, Ronda will continue to be a bigger draw than Cyborg, so it would make sense to make that fight takes place at the most favorable weight for Rousey.

Jon Jones put his foot down once.

And got shit all over by fans.

Pettis is 10x more deserving for a shot at 145 than chael was for a shot at 205.
And anyone who doesn't want to see pettis vs aldo is a crazy person or just scared that aldo will lose. Sick fight between two elite guys. Phone Post
