Five-round non-title fights are officially making their way to the UFC.

UFC president Dana White today told a small group of reporters that the promotion has decided that all main-event non-title bouts – whether on pay-per-view, Spike TV or Versus – will now be scheduled as five-rounders.

Wasn't this a "co-main event?"

It should have been a 5 round fight. It was a #1 contender match and it had been said that the winner would definitively get a title shot.  It's a co-main and 2 of the best in the business.  The elite deserve the extra rounds especially when you get a chess match like last night.  The fight needs to be able to develop and sometimes 3 just isn't enough..

Not only that, but the PPV ended pretty early last night. The extra rounds would have been good for the card.

All in all, great card and show....

I was confused, I thought for sure this would meet the criteria for such a fight... Like others have mentioned, it was a #1 contender match and it had been said that the winner would get a title shot.

Is it because it was not a lone "main event?" If so, the word "co" is rather pointless... I guess Henderson and Machida was really the "undercard"

Would two more rounds if machida counter punching and running really have mattered? Well, maybe Hendo would have landed a bomb or had a heart attack after running another 5 miles Phone Post
