After each live event, the UFC polls various members of the media to update it's rankings in each weight division as well as the pound for pound rankings. With only a few meaningful bouts at this past weekend's UFC 157, there was only small movement in some divisions.

Lightheavyweight (Champion : Jon Jones)
1        Lyoto Machida
2        Alexander Gustafsson
3        Dan Henderson
4        Glover Teixeira
5        Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
6        Mauricio Rua
6        Rashad Evans
8        Phil Davis
9        Ryan Bader
10     Gegard Mousasi

In the lightheavyweight, Lyoto Machida moved up one spot to the number one spot, and UFC President Dana White confirmed that he would indeed fight Jon Jones next. Alexander Gustaffson moved up to the number two spot, despite not competing, with Dan Henderson's loss.

Welterweight (Champion : Georges St-Pierre)
1       Johny Hendricks
2       Carlos Condit
3       Nick Diaz
4       Rory MacDonald
5       Demian Maia
6       Jake Ellenberger
7       Martin Kampmann
8       Tarec Saffiedine
9       Josh Koscheck
10     Robbie Lawler

Robbie Lawler entered the top ten immediately with his win over Josh Koscheck. Lawler was one of the fighters return to the UFC after Strikeforce was dissolved. Despite the loss, Koscheck remained higher in the rankings, having previously been ranked eighth.

view entire rankings...

On a personal note, I am also a voting member of the panel and agreed with the movement on the lightheavyweight rankings, but I had Lawler in 9th and Koscheck in 10th as I couldn't see Koscheck remaining above Lawler in the rankings lossing from TKO.

Chael wasn't ranked in the first rankings, now he's 9 at MW and moved up one? How? He hasn't fought in over half a year.

He should be higher and not moving, but is because you added SF fighters? I'm not seeing the sense in this.

Keeping Kos above Lawler is retarded.

IF Chael beats Jones will he be ranked #8 and Jones # 7. How can these guys have screwed this up so early.

Frankie Edgar now ranked #10 p4p. He wasn't previously ranked there. Did he take someone else's place? Who dropped out?

Camelz -  Yeah, I missed that. They should be flipped. I also don't know why UFC left kos above lawler as well. Phone Post

It's a logical ranking anyway, when you flip those two. I might bump Nick down a couple notches. He's always fun to watch, and hopefully he keeps his shit together so we get to see the GSP fight. But. He loses to any top fighter in the division that doesn't agree to stand flat footed and trade 10 thousand jabs with him. Diaz brothers just have weak footwork. It's why they do everything they can to antagonize opponents in to abandoning their strategy and box. That doesn't work against people like Ben. Nate flipped him off over and over, running his mouth constantly, and if Ben had fallen for it, it might have worked. Just like Cerrone, who beats Nate 8/10 times IMO. Knocked his hat off, and he completely tossed his gameplan out the window.

I'm pumped to see Robbie is back anyway. That stoppage was fine.

LOL @ Lyoto being #1!!!!

I love the guy, but let's take an objective look at his record:

- 3-3 in the past THREE YEARS
- Finished BRUTALLY twice (once by the current champ)
- One of his wins was against an extremely old Randy Couture who had only 3 fights at LHW since 2006!
- Another of his wins was a split decision win over Hendo that put everyone to sleep and was so close that many thought he lost

That is not exactly a run that should put you at #1.

Most rankings are really about who people think is the better fighter than who actually earned it. This is an EXTREME example of that imo...

Of course, you're not suggesting that Lyoto isn't an amazing talent. The problem is that these rankings will always be trivial and a little f'd up, while people like JJ sit at the top. There is just a big talent gap there. No matter who earns that #1 contender spot, that talent gap is going to be glaring. Machida is one of my favorite fighters to watch, but, JBJ had something to say about that whole 'Machida era'.

He was cut from the roster, so he's not available for UFC official ranking.

Why would Rory be at #2? Only top ten guy he's faced is Condit and he did not win. Phone Post

Nick Diaz is #3 with a single win over past prime out-of-his-weight-class BJ Penn?

Anyone putting serious stock in these rankings is naive and silly. Even more so, if this actually pisses you off.

Also, Machida just beat the #1 contender. That makes HIM the #1 contender. Not rocket science.

And if you argue that Machida lost, you're either huggin Hendo's All-American nuts or you're Cecil Peoples.

Pretty sure he was ranked there before. Think Hendo was there, now Barao has replaced him. Phone Post
