Doesn't look like it's going to be cheap.  Engadget reports Sony "hopes" to sell it below $599... wut?  Yes $599!  Yikes.

I don't believe for one second Sony will do $600 again, that already cost them this generation and all the momentum the PS2 had built up.

None of these articles adding up costs every really amount to anything. Maybe it costs Sony that much, maybe it doesn't. Doesn't mean that will translate directly to crazy prices for us.

I will never pay above 400 for a console, and even that is pushing it.

PS3 has two models at launch at $499.99 - 599.99, 360 had two models at launch for $299.99 - 399.99, so I'm not surprised. I expect the new systems to be in the 300-400 range. There have been rumors that MS could be shooting for a
$299.99 price tag for the new Xbox. Phone Post

Screw 400+ for a new system. I don't need to get in first thing, I can wait for price drops

This gen I'm going to hang back and see what happens rather than jump in early. With a cheaper console Microsoft could find great success.

So far I don't like the new Playstation pad or all the social aspects attached to the console. Then again, if the alternative is Windows 8...

With all the added complexities and lack of backward compatibility this might be the first generation where PC gaming manages to be the simpler option.

Get it for $600 with no contract, or $200 with mandatory 2 year PSN Plus agreement. That's my prediction.

My 360 was 600 with a game at launch so I'm not sure where your numbers come from. Phone Post

360 had the $299 Core and the $399 Premium. What country are you in where you paid $600?

If it launches at 600 that would be a massive mistake on Sony's part.
