I am pleased to announce our 5th annual "Grapple For The Cure" Jiu-Jitsu Tournament to benefit St. Jude's Children Hospital on April 20th, 2013 at Buchanan High School in Clovis, CA. In the past 4 years this tournament has raised over $24,000 for a wonderful charity! Our donation last year was over $6,000, and I believe this year will be even better.

First, and most importantly, let me tell you about St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital. This charity helps treat terrible diseases that afflict children, and the ability to pay means ZERO in regards to the treatment given. No child has ever been turned away due to inability to pay. Furthermore, St. Jude's is on the cutting edge of research to find cures for these horrible afflictions. Also, St. Jude's is one of the top charities when it comes to turning your donation into good works that directly benefit those in need. I am honored and humbled to be able to support this institution.

The tournament this year will feature divisions for Pee Wees, (Gi Matches With No Submissions), Kids (Gi Matches With Submissions), and Adults (Divisions in Gi and No Gi). Also, for the first time we are having a No Gi ABSOLUTE Division with a guaranteed $600 cash prize from Combat Sports Gear of Clovis for the winner.

Pee Wees and Kids will be matched up as close as possible based on Age, Belt, and Weight. The weight classes for white and blue belt adults in Gi and No Gi will be 125, 145, 165, 185, 205, 225, and 225+. Purple, Brown, and Black Belts will have super fight matches (call for more info). Gi's do not have to be worn for the weigh ins, which will be from 3PM – 8PM at Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu of Fresno (www.rgjjoffresno.com) on April 19th, or prior to the event at Buchanan High School on April 20th.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of negativity surrounding the Jiu-Jitsu community of late, so now is the time to replace the bad karma with deeds and actions that make a positive difference. This event is about good sportsmanship for a great purpose! Here is how you can help:

1. Come out and compete, or at least come out and watch! E-mail info@rgjjoffresno.com for registration forms, print one out for yourself, and leave a few at your school or gym.

2. Donate a prize for the raffle and/or silent auction. Anything is welcome: gear, apparel, gift baskets, gift certificates, anything helps. Email us so we can figure out how to get your item included

3. Donate online directly to St. Jude: https://waystohelp.stjude.org/sjVPortal/public/donate.do?sectionStyle=subMenuThree&to=event&eventId=334844&programId=1402 />

Come out and compete and support this event. See you on the mat,

Tosh Cook

Mission

The mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.
