New Leaf 1.0 - It scares me that people are too dumb to realize that maintaining and promoting fighters that can get good buy rates is where the money comes from to support everyone else.

If it wasn't for guys like Diaz who people like to watch - there would be no career in fighting for guys like Fitch.

BTW - Diaz won his last two fights in the UFC before not getting re-signed in 2006.

Don't be scared, homie.

It's guys like Fitch who add legitimacy to the UFC. He's a legit athlete in ever sense of the word and one of the best welterweights on the planet. He should quit that ghey veggie diet of his though. He's looked like crap since doing that.

I think Diaz is good for the UFC as well, but if every fighter was like him the UFC would get no mainstream coverage. It would be considered an absolute joke if all UFC fighters flipped each other off, refused to show up for press conferences, and skipped open workouts.

It's not that people don't understand it but then Dana should just say what it really is and quit spouting off how they have the best athletes and fighters in the world and instead say we have lower level fighters who are draws and the best fighters if they are cheap.   Also, as I stated, they need to bring Kimbo back then.  I believe his season on TUF was the highest ranked ever.

UFC ONLY cares about views??

Maybe have Chuck Liddell come out of retirement to fight a bear?

More steel cage matches.

Royal rumbles.

etc...

Yeah lol because lower level competition really brings in the big bucks. Phone Post

Also Dana has said it plenty of times, you apparently just didn't listen.

I really can't say how many times I've herd Dana say "we make the fights fans want to see" but its a lot. I actually like that they make one off fights as long as they don't get in the way of progression. Phone Post

How many guys in the top 10 of any weight class aren't in the UFC? They have the vast majority of them. Fitch had how many fights in the UFC?

There's a middle ground between the Olympic movement and the WWE, by pretending it is one or the other all you are doing is being disingenuous. Being this butt hurt about a guy who has 1 win in his last 4 fights doesn't make a lot of sense. Especially since you have no clue how much he was making or what his demands were. He was probably 5 wins away from a title fight anyway.

The NFL doesn't stop being where the best football players on Earth play simply because some veterans are cut for less expensive new guys, even if some of the veterans are better.

If they are better than their peers, veterans do NOT get cut from the league. Terrible example.

A top 10 running back is not getting cut from the league and shuffled off to the CFL.

UFC is all about entertainment. It's not a legit sport.

Why are we comparing team sports to individual sports as if there is no difference and non combat sports to combat sports as if there is no difference....

They don't equate. Phone Post

If you have an NFL team that is extremely unpopular with the fans and cannot draw money then sooner or later they close up shop or have to sell. The NFL is a business just the same as the UFC. If the NFL could not draw fans regardless of how good the players were, there would be no NFL. The fighters in the UFC are just like teams in the NFL. If they cannot draw in enough revenue then they have to go. The only difference is that UFC fighters are not sold off to different "owners" if they can't bring in enough money.

The statement "UFC is not a legit sport" is true...because UFC is not a sport, MMA is a sport. It is extremely legit, however you might not have all of the best fighters in one organization because at the end of the day these companies have to make money. There is MMA outside the UFC though contrary to what many think.

I don't think Nick Diaz is a big draw going forward.

Because a lot of people bought this PPV because of the "story" of these two hating each other and expected them to at least fight like they had a strong dislike.

They didn't.

GSP is such a brand that he loses nothing because people will still tune in if only to see if someone can beat him.

However with Nick this is two straight fights with a lot of sound and very little fury.

You can only draw people with hopes that next time will be different for so long.

Everyone likes to wonder if the UFC has a Mike Tyson.

The answer is no.

Tyson was a draw not because of promos but because he fought like a monster and you knew the main event wasn't going the distance.

MMA lacks a Tyson draw and have gone with these WWE style feuds like Sonnen-Silva, GSP-Kos and now GSP-Diaz.

So far the ONLY big drawing fight that lived up to the hype and the smack talk was Lesnar-Mir III with even Brock continuing after it was over.

Nick drew a large audience but it was a large casual audience that expected to see a fight and instead got something that looked much less aggressive.

Nick needs a Daley type next fight out or else his antics will be far more fun than the fights and that won't draw any money since press conferences are free. Phone Post

Tyson was a worldwide celebrity by the time he was 20 as much because of his story and his outside-the-ring antics as he was for his fighting.

Eyelasher - You know you got something special here with Nick Diaz...give the man a forum and a platform to express himself...meaning only appropriate marquee matchups that will showcase his skill and talent level...as well as, primetimes/countdowns filmed on his schedule...come on, now...and a concerted effort to drastically overhaul the judging/scoring criteria...

However, a top 10 team in the NFL that does not have enough fans to bring in revenue to support the expenses will go bankrupt. They will be sold off, or closed all together if they are not a draw.

dfw jr -  The UFC 158 Weigh-In aired live at 4pm ET and was easily the highest rated and most watched Weigh-In of all-time, delivering a 0.47 HH rating, 215,000 total viewers and a 0.57 M18-49 rating. Friday’s Weigh-In beat the previous record holder (UFC on FOX 2 Weigh-In on 1/27/12) by 96% on HH’s, 67% on total viewers and 73% among M18-49. Phone Post

Just nitpicking here but I believe that's an 0.47 "Coverage Area" rating not a Household rating (lots of people even in the industry get that wrong though). You could just say an 0.47 rating though. An 0.47 Household rating would be roughly 535,000 households (and like 700,000-900,000 viewers I'd guess but since the number of viewers per households is variable obviously one can't say for sure).

Still crazy good ratings for a weigh-in on Fuel though.

Considering how well the last Fuel event did, I'm getting the feeling that Ronda Rousey's media exposure brought in some new fans who were curious, who were then converted to full-time fans. So that's probably at least a secondary factor even here.

I was really hoping Nick had a little more, to challenge GSP, but I was left a little disappointed in his performance. I guess you could say that I was not impressed with his performance.

not impressed? first dude to actually make gsp get tired, stuffed gsp takedowns more than anyone, took way less ground and pound than anyone else underneath gsp. and had a moment in the third where it looked like he rocked gsp a little.
Agreed, all things considered I think he had a good performance, I think his gonna have a fire lit under hiss ass for his next match up, hopefully ellen, I think he would overwhelm burger Phone Post
