Saturday's UFC 158 may wind up being the biggest pay-per-view event UFC's top draw, Georges St-Pierre, has done on his own with preliminary indications that the show will top 800,000 buys.

The success of the show is even more impressive since it was achieved without a three-week Primetime series as Penn, Hardy, and Shields had to build up their title challenges. The Ultimate Fighter season with Koscheck and GSP had weekly tension between the coaches.

MMA Fighting reports that the UFC 158 Prelims which aired on FX scored an average of 1.58 million viewers for a 1.03 rating.  It made it the third highest rated prelims on the FX Network.

The event was widely watched as it was reported that there were a record number of people that tuned into the weigh-ins on Fuel TV Friday as the airing received an average of 215,000 viewers.  The post-fight coverage also received an average of 125,000 viewers.

CroboCop - i went to buffalo wild wings to watch the fights around 8pm (est)

usually if you get there around that time you have nothing to worry about a far as getting a seat for the fights. some families need to finish their food and get out of the way. usually you could pick whos staying and whos going by the looks of the table.

not this time. families, young teen kids (boys and girls) were staying to watch the fights.

i knew this was gonna be a big one. can't wait to see the ppv numbers

y? do u get a cut of the ppv?

No doubts this will have big numbers.

Heck.....my seven year old begged to the point of tears to be allowed to stay up late to watch GSP vs Diaz. Phone Post

So basically it is in the same ballpark as GSP usually does.  He did the same against Shields and Koscheck (waits for Diaz fans to say the success was all because of Diaz).

Stephen Holder - Yeah even 800k is amazing when you consider the lack of promotion. What is Georges highest grossing ppv? Was it GSP/Penn 2?

The highest selling PPV GSP has been on was UFC 100 where he fought Thiago Alves, but most folks attribute that PPV success to Brock.

Sounds like the usual GSP card. What happened to all the Diaz fans saying Diaz would get it over 1,000,000?

This. 800,000 is normal GSP numbers. A million would have been impressive.

GSP vs. Hughes II 500,000
GSP vs. Serra I 400,000
GSP vs. Hughes III 650,000
GSP vs. Serra II 530,000
GSP vs. Fitch 625,000
GSP vs. Penn II 920,000
GSp vs. Alves 1,600,000 (also had Brock/Mir on card)
GSP vs. Hardy 770,000
GSP vs. Koscheck II 785,000
GSP vs. Shields 800,000
GSP vs. Condit 700,000

Who watches that stuff? I actually WANT to watch them but I never know when they're on, or they're on at retarded times.

Uhh yeah you can include me in those folks. UFC 100 did like what 1.5 mil? I didn't even remember George fought on there I just remember Lesnar. That was the Carwin fight right? GSP+Brock should have done over 2 mil easy. 1.5 is abysmal in that context.
Must be trolling, if you can't even remember that UFC 100 was Brock/Mir.

Make it less obvious next time, even casual fans could tell you who Brock fought that night... Phone Post

800 is not normal GSP numbers. It's a good 50K above his usual average. Check it out:

If we average out the buys listed above, you get an average of 752K PV buys.

If you take Brock/Mur out, which you really should because GSP was not the main event - you get an average of 668K buys.

So yeah, 800K+ is a better than usual numkber for GSP. And good for him & Nick! I hope they both get paid crazy.

That 800K has *got* to put a couple million in Nick's pocket. Hopefully he can use that money to either get some better things happening at his camp, or live on it for a while and just go do triathlons.

Even if you take out the Brock fight, the average for GSP over his last 5 fights and 4+ years is 795,000 buys.
With count down shows and a heavy promotional push. This one just kind of lingered out there till the conformance call days or a week before the fight. Phone Post

Yahoo Sports writer Kevin Iole was asked on Facebook what the buyrate was for the show, and he responded with this nugget of information:

"A bit under 1.1 million."

Wow if true. I feel like the UFC would release the numbers if it came in over 1 million, though. Will GSP vs Hendricks be bigger than GSP vs Diaz?

Luke Thomas just said on his live chat that he's not sure where Iole got that number(1.1 million), but his sources are still saying under 850k Phone Post
