GIBB0 -  This has already been explained.

The guy was saying that if the other fighters weigh in over weight they'll announce it as over weight.

If GSP/Diaz weigh in over weight they'll announce it as 170 and then they'll have an hour to cut the weight, but only if it's under 171.

They just didn't want any messing around at the weigh in with the big crowd and the volatility of the matchup.

They are allowed the hour generally, see Nate's last fight. Phone Post

Thank you....but the huggers won't listen to the fact that they both had to weigh 170....besides, nobody knows if anyone had to use the one hour weight cut so fuck it.....

That isn't what Mersch said. He was clear that "they don't count the decimal":

Mersch: “Here, they’re going to allow you and Georges to have an extra hour. Just in case somebody doesn’t make it. But the good news is, they don’t count the decimal. If you’re 170.2 it’s 170. If it’s 170.9. it’s 170.”

In other words, 170.9 = 170 -- which is "kind of an off the record type of thing", according to Mersch. The fight wasn't at 170 pounds. That's all we know. It is hard to avoid the conclusion that this is some old-school boxing shenanigans with the local home Commission, given Georges' apparent difficulties in trying to make weight. Unless the Commission comes clean, we'll never know Georges's actual weight on the scale. All we will know is that the rule was changed at the last minute before the weigh-ins, which had never happened before in Montreal.

Do you Diaz fans really want to see a rematch? I think not, so lets put this to sleep.

That's a video, the commision rules allowed for one hour to make weight and both fighters had to make that weight, besides, you don't know if gsp was over anyway so.....?
