Instead of awarding them with a slave contract and a watch or whatever? I understand that when TUF first started the UFC was way in the red, but now its a billion dollar company.

Why not increase the stakes and at least give the winner a 100k prize equal to the prize the winner of the "small time" bellator tourney gets? Phone Post

Agreed. A contract probably isn't enough, especially when it takes you away from your family and whatnot for such a long time.

They get like a 12/12 contract...kinda sucks but you can rack up 25 grand for season bonuses and 5 grand for every finish Phone Post

From my understanding you get hooked up with some pretty good sponsors after winning.

Not sure if true Phone Post 3.0

So of that's true if their contract is 12/12, then to be a six figure contract it has to be like 9 fights?

TUF where money is earned not given.

They get the opportunity to earn:
$5k per fight 4 fights =$20k
$5k for sub, KO or fight of year= $15k
$16k to win the final= $16
$2k if your coach wins= $2k
(Plus they could get KO, SUB or fight of the night in the final and win $10-$30k or something)

That's the chance to make $53,000 plus the Harley and the contract. Not really all that bad. Phone Post 3.0

The TUF winners contract is this

15/15 for the first three fights
20/20 for the next three
24/24 for the final three fights

Guys who dont win the show but make the UFC start off at 8/8.

So for a prospect the contract isnt bad at first but for guys like Nelson or Bader when you are 6-7 fights in and you are a top 10 fighter and only making 20/20 or 24/24 that isnt great.

But a young prospect making 15/15 for the first few fights, getting three fights a year if you win them all you are making 6 figures a year with sponsors. Add in possible OTN bonuses thats not bad.

We're adding a little something to this year's TUF.

As you all know, first prize is a brand new Cadillac El Dorado.

Anyone want to see second prize?

Second prize is an economy pack of Corn Nuts.

Third prize is you're fired. Phone Post 3.0

The Bellator tournament is 3 months, 1 fight a month. The Ultimate Fighter is 4 fights over 6 weeks. 5 fights if you make it to the finals from the Wild Card seed. The Ultimate Fighter is a tougher tournament, in that regard. Phone Post

Did seem kind of long. I googled it real quick.

Either way its not a lot of money on TUF but its a lot more than they were making. Some of the guys act like the $5k win bonus could change their lives. Phone Post 3.0

That's shit money fren, even if you won every bonus it's a shit sandwich.

You're far better off coming 2nd in TUF if it means you can negotiate your own contract.

Lol at $100k possible purse over 3 years. That's a joke Phone Post 3.0

Ability to make 53K in 6 weeks is shit money?

Followed by 100K over the next year!

According to you, with hard work making 150K/year is shit money?

What kind of world do you live in?

Bellator's tourney is to award the winner a title shot.
TUF award's the winner a guaranteed contract and an opportunity to further their career. The contract itself is not that bad considering most of these guys are unproven and as of late (excluding this season) not really that good.

The guys who are good or can market themselves properly have the chance to make some REAL coin. Like Forrest, Rashad, Diaz, Sanchez, Bisping. But would you want to offer more lucrative contracts right off the bat to guys like Brookins, Danzig, Efrain, Grove?

You also forgot... they get a glass trophy too!

CRMartin11 - Anyone with half a brain will tell you that is a terrible deal. A low level fighter or anyone making 15/15 should not be getting into a long term deal, especially a 9 fight deal!!! They have almost no chance to increase $. Guys like Roy Nelson who is unquestionably a top 10 heavyweight probably top 5 deserves to get fucking PAID. Thhe Heavyweight division is a huge draw and Roy Nelson in particular is fan favourite. He should be making at least 75k to show. Not including win bonus. That is a very conservative figure.

I don't begrudge the UFC for taking advantage of these guys, making better contracts for themselves. That is business, but fighters shouldn't put up with that shit. Maybe a lot of them (like Roy) are fed up with it and aren't willing to fight in TUF. It's in the UFC's best interest to make TUF more advantageous and acquire the best prospects. Incentives like more cash and better contracts could be a huge factor.

I hate to burst your bubble, but Nelson is no where near a top 5 HW. He's a popular fighter so that should be reflected in sponsor money, but no way he should be paid like a top 5 HW.

Don't take it the wrong way. I think fighters on average are severely underpaid, but I'm comparing contracts to other fighters at the same level.

And bellator is supposed to be the minor leagues. Yet if u win that tourney u get 100k and shot at the title. Tuf's prize makes the UFC look small time. There is no "big event" feeling u get from the show because u can walk into the UFC outside the show like Alvarez and get a much much much more lucrative contract. Phone Post 3.0

Or you could be a slightly above average fighter like Forrest Griffin and make a shit load more than Alvarez.

You also can't compare a known name like Alvarez to an unknown green fighter. I agree fighter pay on average is shit, but why the hell would you want to pay someone like Jonathan Brookins more money than someone like Alvarez?

Hell's Kitchen on FOX.

The prize: 250K salary to be head chef at a new Gordon Ramsay restaurant in Vegas.

UFC on FX?

The prize? A contract where you can earn less than one of the waiters Dana White tips generously for delivering a perfectly cooked steak.

Of course, Hell's Kitchen is a superior show.

When you can make a kitchen seem exciting and create palpable tension between chain-smoking garnish cooks with a genuine wonder who will be sent packing; you have a recipe that works.

TUF is FIGHTING yet is largely a more boring show that lacks both tension AND personality.

People need to CARE about who wins, find their favorite and have a reason to get into the show while not knowing just what will happen next.

TUF could deliver that but they don't and it's why every winner becomes this generic guy who draws no money, has no fanbase and becomes nothing special for having won.

The UFC could do better.

They're big enough now that they SHOULD. Phone Post
