Pat Miletich is a legend in mixed martial arts, for crafting the blueprint that the sport has followed since - to reach the highest level of MMA, you have to have diverse skills sufficient in wrestling, BJJ, and striking to hang in the gym with national class players in the respective discipline.

Miletich currently appears on Showtime, ESPN and AXS.TV as a fight commentator, and trains law enforcement officers and military members in combatives.

And now he is considering a run for the United States Senate.

The Quad City Times has the story.

Miletich  tweeted last week that people could pencil his name in next year for Senate, adding “Bruce Braley cannot win that seat.”

Braley, a Democrat from Waterloo, has said he is running for the seat being vacated by Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa.

In an interview Monday, he said he hasn’t decided whether he will add “Senate candidate” to his resume but he has been thinking about politics for a couple of years.

"A lot of people are fed up with a lot of things that are happening in the country,” he said.

He criticized the influence of special interest, and said he believes in term limits. He also said the government is intruding too much on the private sector and individual rights.

“I’m not a fan of the left, socialist mentality at all,” he said.

Miletich is a registered Republican but said it was possible he could run as an independent.

The 47-year-old also left open the possibility he might even run for a local office, such as mayor of Bettendorf. But then he added, “I never think small.”

if he was serious about winning in politics you'd figure he'd run for state sentate or a congressional seat. He doesn't have the namepower or political connections to run for senate, especially as an independent

I guess, they both still fuck you in the end though.

Nothing wrong with people getting involved in their local community, regardless of their politics though. Not enough people either care enough or can afford to.

I've spent a lot of time debating with Pat about politics.

He's a good guy and he is a gentleman as well but I can't endorse his political views. They are hardline republican. He's is a total FOX news junkie.

The other thing that gets me is that all of his politcal views come from his religion and how he thinks things should be based on the bible. I really get bothered by that type of politics. Pushing religion on people is not cool.

But Pat is a gentleman and a well spoken guy so I wouldn't surprised if he ran. I would, however be surprised if he won.

Well said, if religion is your basis for running a complex society with situations you cannot blanket you're already behing the 8ball in my opinion and doomed to fail or oppress people.

It depends though. One side has the religious extremism and lunatic morality standards and the other has government micro management and keeping a truly decrpit welfare system status quo

Take your pick on which bothers you more

And they both are puppets from trillionaire backed corporate powers.

Uuuggg! I respect Pat Miletich as a fighter and a trainer, but his political views leave a lot to be desired. He's a police state worshiper and a war monger. I hope he sticks to MMA and stays out of politics.
