"the BJ that fought sherk/Diego absolutely murders the BJ that fought frankie twice."

No. Same BJ. The difference is Sherk and Diego just walked straight into his punches over and over. They didn't make him work in the slightest. They didn't make him chase, didn't make him turn, weren't fast enough to hit him, weren't fast enough to avoid being hit, weren't good enough to take him down.

Diego did nothing but blunder straight forward with his 1800s style 1-2s, and go for desperation takedowns -- the guy never successfully outwrestles anyone anymore, it's not going to be BJ.

Sherk did nothing but blunder straight forward whiffing hooks with his short arms from 5 feet away. He made exactly one half-assed takedown attempt.

Whilst I agree that Edgar was a nightmare style match up for BJ, I don't agree that he was in the best shape he could be for either of those fights with frankie. A more well conditioned BJ would not have been taken down in that 2nd fight, but yeah, frankie had a clear speed advantage and his hit and run style was the perfect gameplan for someone like BJ who utilises a crisp jab and likes to stay in the pocket. BJ is so underated now. People forget he is still easiest the GOAT LW still. That his win over Hughes the first time is one of the biggest upsets in the sport's history. As much as Serra/GSP, as much as Gonzaga/CC.

He should have went back to LW after the Diaz fight. His showing vs Rory really brought his stock down in the casual eye. That was a shitty showing though, he drew Fitch when he was still #2, he did well vs Diaz in R1 but he didnt even have anything vs Rory.

War BJ, but the guy's dedication is lacking. Let's say he comes back and wins a title at 155. How long would he want to keep it before getting bored with the sport or weight division and would he have the fire to train like a madman every time he has to defend it ? Every time GSP or Anderson or Aldo have a title defense coming up they train like it's their first time going for a title shot. BJ is off and on regarding his passion for the sport. One day he loves it, another day he asks himself why he's still doing it.

BJ can be absolutely fierce when he's on, but he's not "on" all the time.

I would love to see him go for another run, but only if his heart is into it.

Now way penn wins title again

Coaches continually say my guy is the best!

Penn doesnt use the tools he has

He just boxes rarely kicks rarely shoots takedowns
He is too predictable
He doesnt have cardio to compete at championship level Phone Post

The scary thing about BJ is that he's one of those fighters that no matter what, he always has a chance because of his killer instinct. One mistake and he has the ability to capitalize on it. He doesn't seem to care about odds. That alone gives him a chance. Can he win the title again? Probably not but I would never say he doesn't have a chance. Phone Post

I just want to see BJ back at 155

This!

Never understood why he moved up.
He was king 55, well one without a trone but still a king Phone Post

BJ Penn has limitless ambition and confidence.

People shit on his record now.

I wonder how GSP would have fared if he'd have gone to MW after a single belt defense.

Or Anderson Silva at LHW.

Not fighting random dudes, but fighting for the belt, and other top 10s.

BJ is probably set like a motherfucker financially, age only goes in one direction, so if he wants to go out with a bang, fuck yeah, go for it.
