Machida is not convinced about the Jones loss

This. He should fight anyone but Jones. Make some $ and fight Gus.

Convinced enough to turn down the rematch when DW was begging him to take it. Chael didn't turn it down. Lyoto has got nothing to cry about.

This kind of logic is straight out of Sherdog.

Machida lost to Jones on a full camp, so he's going to fight him on 8 days and hope for a better result? And if he loses? Have you ever heard of someone going 0-3 against a UFC champ? That shit doesn't happen. An 8-day unprepared shot against a killer like Jones would leave nothing but regret for the rest of his life.

Chael took the shot because he will never get it on his own merits at LHW, and he's a good salesman. Machida has now been champion, and earned the #1 spot 3 times after that (including the one stripped for not taking the 8-day fight).

Machida wants to be fully prepared, because a loss to Jones means he likely never becomes champion again. Anyone who fails to understand that has probably never had to work hard to achieve something worthwhile.

Chael will probably do a lot better against Jones, than Machida did. It was nobody's fault that DH's knee went out. Shit happens. And when shit happens, sometimes some people need to step up. Chael did step up. You'd never see Chael turn down a fight, on short notice or not. And, it wouldn't matter if a major PPV were hanging in the balance, Chael would be ready to go regardless. You can hate the gay, but, these are just truths. IMO.

It was unfortunate, but it's nobody else's fault that Lyoto lost his place in line.

Precisely. Big Machida fan here, but... Yeah. That fight made it very clear that JBJ is leaps and bounds ahead of the LHW pack. It's probably a good thing that things fell apart and we got to see Lyoto vs Dan instead of Lyoto vs Jones. Instead of wasting two title fights, we got to see where DH and LM really stand. They have a puncher's chance, that's it.

Huge DH fan and I was looking forward to the fight, but he's got a better chance at HW.
