So according to www.mma-manifesto.com the UFC 159 FIGHTER SALARIES are as follows:

Michael Bisping: $425,000 ($275,000 to show, $150,000 win bonus)

Jon Jones: $400,000

Pat Healy: $152,500 ($17,500 to show, $5,000 win bonus, $65,000 Fight of the Night bonus, $65,000 Submission of the Night bonus)

Roy Nelson: $113,000 ($24,000 to show, $24,000 win bonus, $65,000 Knockout of the Night bonus)

Jim Miller: $106,000 ($41,000 to show, $65,000 Fight of the Night bonus)

Cheick Kongo: $70,000

Phil Davis: $60,000 ($30,000 to show, $30,000 win bonus)

Chael Sonnen: $50,000

Alan Belcher: $37,000

Ovince St. Preux: $34,000 ($17,000 to show, $17,000 win bonus)

Cody McKenzie: $20,000 ($10,000 to show, $10,000 win bonus)

Leonard Garcia: $20,000

Rustam Khabilov: $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 win bonus)

Bryan Caraway: $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 win bonus)

Steven Siler: $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 win bonus)

Sara McMann: $12,000 ($6,000 to show, $6,000 win bonus)

Gian Villante: $12,000

Vinny Magalhaes: $8,000

Johnny Bedford: $8,000

Yancy Medeiros: $6,000

Sheila Gaff: $6,000

Kurt Holobaugh: $6,000

So if you were fighting on the undercard...you mind as well apply for the MGR job at Starbucks.

Why is the compensation so low for the fighters? Would paying more bring in better talent ?

Um.... ok... yeah unknown fighters should be getting paid big.... or not. You make your name and earn more money. You dont just get big bucks just because you fight for the UFC. You need to be a reason that buys/ratings come in higher to make money. Hence why Bisping gets a huge paycheck.

They are free to fill out an application, doubt they start off as managers though.

Look at those top salaries. That is why they are better off than Starbucks managers. Both Jon Jones and Michael Bisping started out making $5K/5K. They put in the work and now they are getting PAID. It's called paying your dues.

So what you are saying is, that society as a whole values a starbucks manager more than a cage fighter?  astonishing.

MARC BULGER -
CRMartin11 - stupid argument but I agree that starting fighter purse could be higher. Even if low level fighters got 10/10 as opposed to 6/6 that would make a huge difference for those fighters.
Vinny got $8,000 to fight. He maybe fights three times a year so he maybe makes around $24,000 a year. People that work at In and Out Burger make more than him before sponsors. Sponsors shouldn't be never mentioned in UFC fighter pay because it's not UFC. Phone Post

That math assumes that Vinny fights and LOSES all three times. If that were the case, he wouldn't deserve to get paid a whole lot. He gets paid $16K when he wins, plus whatever backroom bonuses he gets. As many other fighters have pointed out over the years, the official purses reported to the commission are only a portion of their total compensation.

God, you are an idiot. You should just ignore the "post" button for about a year until you acquire some sense. Phone Post 3.0

WOW...sorry to offend you! I thought this was a Mixed Martial Arts discussion forum. A professional athlete that works as hard as they do and makes 6K for a fight deserves some attention, especially with a modest live gate of $2.7 million.

1. Those aren't annual salary

2. The average Starbucks store has a 1 million dollar revenue, a manager make 40K pre-taxes and works 40+ hour work weeks in a shitty retail coffee enviorment. (Not to mention they don't start as managers)

3. If you don't LOVE a sport, stop competing in it.

It's diseases like the OP of this thread that make it sad that MMA went mainstream.

the manager at a starbucks doesnt have a 1 in 6 chance of earning a 50k bonus for the night.

A fighter works out and gets paid for what he enjoys doing.  Nobody grows up saying their dream is to be a manager at a starbucks.
