At only 29 years old, John Cholish was considered a decent prospect in the UFC's crowded lightweight division. Cholish entered the UFC in 2011 riding a 7-fight win streak in the local circuit, however is now 1-2 inside the Octagon. Cholish has now made the decision to step back as a professional fighter, as he told MMAJunkie:

After the loss, Cholish told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that continuing to fight didn't make sense for him financially.

"I'm fortunate enough that I have a job that provides for me really well," Cholish said. "I give a lot of these guys credit that fight at this level. I think they could be compensated much better based on the income that the UFC takes in. Fortunately, I can just walk away and I'm OK with it. By no means do I mean it disrespectfully toward any other fighters because I think they do a great job. But hopefully Zuffa and the UFC will start paying them a little better."

Beast of America -  Reason he didn't make much money is because he went 1-2 in the big leagues.

Fail. Phone Post

Fighters in general should be making more than they make. Yea he'd be making more if he was better but the guys that suck still put just as much on the line as the guys that are great. The UFC is holding out on them big time.

Only reason he made 4k/4k is because his manager was probably terrible at negotiating. In life, you have to negotiate to get what you want, not just accept what is offered.

I'm a fan too. Honestly, who can blame him. He's got an Ivy League education and a great job on Wall Street.

He fought as a hobby from the beginning and made it all the way to the big show.

I hope he continues to train for fun. Phone Post

Making it this far and even getting a win in the UFC is pretty impressive considering he was just doing it as a hobby. Phone Post 3.0

On the flip side if he had done better he would have set himself up for a lot more money.

There are guys who LOSE money to fight in the UFC.

You cant do much else when youre preparing for the big show by training 10 times per week. Nobody wants to be underprepared for their big chance.

And then you are guaranteed 4k?

All the discretionary bonuses that may or may not come do not excuse that.

ANY fight is potentially your last.

Come on.
