Thought he was already retired.

He should return to coach TUF. He's fucking hilarious.

He was still talking like he might fight again two years ago. Didn't. But there's a difference between having a lengthy layoff and officially declaring retirement.

The first fighter I new by name that helped get me interested in the sport. For a long time I felt like the only Serra fan on the planet. Much respect for the Champ. Phone Post 3.0

Matt is one of my coaches and he is a great guy, I got down to his gym maybe a little more than a year ago.  I know he was hoping that mma would get legalized in NY so he could have had a fight here.  I wish he could have had it.

There's only 6 men on this planet that can say they held the true UFC Welterweight title and he's one of them. Also responsible for the biggest upset in UFC history and the only man to ever stop GSP with strikes.

Fought the likes of BJ Penn, Matt Hughes, GSP, Yves Edwards, Din Thomas, Jeff Curran, Shonie Carter, Karo Parisyan, Chris Lytle, Frank Trigg, Ivan Menjivar

That's someone who can retire with their head held high.

Not to mention he's one of the coolest and funniest motherfuckers in the sport

Thank you for the amazing fights

Solid career

If by "solid" you mean awesome, I agree.

Dude is a UFC champion, and got the belt by TKOing one of the best MMA has ever seen.

Give props where they are due.

That first picture is iconic. Sums up the whole fight in one pose.
Love it.

Loved his ground game and loved watching him fight because he had an explosive build for a welterweight. Would have liked one more fight but its what he wants. HOF .. The Serra effect shall live on! Phone Post

Hope his post-fighting career is a success. Dude was involved in two of the most jaw dropping KOs ive ever seen, his loss to Carter and his win over GSP.
