When son of UFC hall of famer Randy Couture, Ryan Couture, made his UFC debut he did so without his dad in his corner. The elder Couture recently signed a deal to star in Bellator's reality series and was subsequently banned from being back stage at any UFC event, including as a corner for his son. Couture recently spoke about the situation to MMAJunkie:

"In my opinion, that's over the line," said Couture, whose left his role as a UFC commentator in order to sign with former UFC broadcast partner Spike TV. The decision led to him being effectively banned from son Ryan's corner when the younger Couture made his octagon debut at the UFC on FUEL TV 9 event in April.

Now that the elder Couture is gearing up for the June 19 premiere of Spike TV's "Fight Master" reality show, where he'll serve as one of four coaches, the retired MMA legend said he has no regrets about his decision to leave his UFC gig for a more visible role with Spike TV and Bellator MMA. If anything, he said, White's verbal tirades in the media only increased "Fight Master's" public profile.

"Dana did me and the show a huge favor by creating such a media s--t storm over the show and my decision to sign a deal with Spike," Couture said. "He attracted a lot of attention to a new show. It's unfortunate because I gave the UFC every opportunity to keep me with the company, and they made the decision to pass. I think there were still some underlying issues from the previous rubs that we've had. But at the end of the day, I have to take care of me. I have a family and a legacy and a lot of things I've got to protect. If they aren't going to use me and employ me, I might as well go somewhere else where I can affect the sport, do something positive, and continue to make a living. I have no hard feelings. At the end of the day, it's all business."

Nobody has to shill up the thread because Couture's history as a person and businessman speaks for itself.

Is Joe Riggs part of the coaching, or on the show as a contestant?

Randy is right, it's just business. Business isn't about being fair, even or nice. It's about making money and winning.

Randy does what's right for him, and Dana does what's right for Zuffa. Randy left for Bellator and Dana didn't want Randy on a UFC broadcast. I'm fine with that.

If I`m not mistaken, the commission said that they would licence Randy & he could do his job.

Randy has made mistakes. We all have.

Id say Randy is a pretty good business man. I think he has done quite well as far as money goes.

That's true, but that doesn't mean the UFC has to let him into their event.

Dana could honestly learn a few things from Vinnie Mac in this area, IMO.

Figured Randy would rather stay out of it and not be a distraction to his kid. If I was him I'd just be quiet about it so Ryan had leas distractions and drama questions that really have nothing to do with him to deal with. Phone Post

I agree with Randy.

I assume he wouldnt have been wearing anythign other than Ryans sponsor shirt. Afterall Dana and the UFC do approve sponsorships.

Even if Randy was advising Ryan between rounds and the camera was filming, it still doesnt mean Randy even needs to be mentioned or referenced.

I guess even though I know Dana dislikes Randy,  I think it would be the mature thing to allow him to corner his son. For all his faults he was a great fighter who had some great gameplans. Not allowing his son to benefit from that while in the fight I think is a huge disservice.

At this point though, I am not surprised by anthing Dana says or does and I dont really mean that as an insult.

He is who he is, and I doubt hes going to change unless it either starts making him money or saving him money.
