John 1 - Why didn't Cyborg stand up and take Schaub down if he's so great? He's just as much to blame. It's not Schaub's fault that cyborg is so unathletic and his takedowns are so bad.

I honestly wasn't surprised at his tactics after learning that he had been training with Ryron. You can bet that they mapped out this strategy for him.

I don't think so, Rener was even saying "Nows a good time to turn it on". They showed him how to prevent Cyborg from getting under him, but that's it. The rest was just BS being a b#*?h Phone Post 3.0

Ryron employed similar tactics against Galvao in their match. Ryron was just surviving against Galvao, but had the skill to be able to escape positions, so would still engage a bit. Schaub doesn't have those skills, so just didn't engage at all. I am 100% sure Schaub trained to do exactly what he did in there. You don't just craft that kind of strategy out of thin air.

Wow, that was brutal to watch. The fact that Schaub said he accomplished what he hoped to is sad. Phone Post 3.0

Maybe this is some ingenius plot to become a heel and gain a ton of haters who will always watch him fight in hopes that he'll lose.

I hope it is, because he's far too proud of himself for that embarrassing "performance".

you don't really believe a 6mth BB would survive with Cyborg, do you?

Schaub catching too much heat imo, Cyborg IS WorldClass, he had a couple opportunities to catch Brendan...

The rules aren't designed to have athletes punished for backing up or stepping out of bounds and against solid competition, it is nearly impossible to force a take down.

wrestling awards points for having your opponent step out of bounds and mma has the cage to pin others against.

Has nothing to do with Cyborgs take downs at all and everything to do with Schaub refusing to engage and there being no repercussions for backing up.

Bad form Peter, Hook would surely be dissapointed

Wow. Way to show your ignorance.

Cyborg Abreu actually has good takedowns and wrestled for the brazilian national team in the past. He has an awesome bottom game but he is far from a butt flopper.

Look, bottom line is that if you just ran around in circles you could stop even Daniel Cormier from takin you down. You could even stop the guy from hitting you (see the infamous Kalib Starnes fight). You would "lose" the fight by everyone's account, but if your point is just to prevent the takedown you would succeed.

So the issue is, with all respect to Schaub, why did he even bother competing? It was pointless and bad for the sport. Worse still for those who watched the event. He may have killed Metamoris and it did no favors even for the Gracie Academy. Phone Post 3.0

totally disagree. Metamoris is about world class. More importantly its about bjj purists paying money to see world class, not the Gracie Brothers' buddies who arent up to snuff shit the bed and steal our money.

fair enough, your gripe is not with Brendan at all then, Ralek is the one you should be upset with imo...

is this an ambien walrus post or did you not watch the match? in bjj schaub would have been penalized for not engaging

brendan did not want top and he did not want bottom

what else do you want?

metamoris is a sub only event. if you are not going to grapple in a sub only event get the fuck out. don't do it. if you are scurred of a BB champ, do not accept the match. go get a match with Ari Bolden instead

no, I watched it, he was in Cyborgs half guard several times, and even in his full guard at one point, what did you want him to do? dangle his leg out there?

This. I really can't believe anyone would try to back up his actions after seeing the match and post fight conference. Phone Post 3.0

I hope that Mitrione dummies Schaub badly.

Schaub would eat his first born to get out of a bad situation.

I'm confused . . . did Schaub not sign up for the match?

Did that not imply that he believed he could win, and represent to those who would watch and pay that he would in fact attempt to win?

At the very least--even if we went so far as to agree with Schaub that merely "surviving" or "shutting down" Abreu's game was somehow a "moral victory" that isn't offensive to the spirt of a competition--then doesn't signing up for the match at a minimum imply that Schaub would actively engage Abreu in the attempt to "shut down" his game?

How is what Schaub did any different than what Kalib Starnes did?  If it's not different, do you defend Starnes's actions in the same way?  How was Schaub's behavior not disrespectful not only to those who paid to view the match, but also to Abreu specifically and the spirit of competition generally?
