At Friday night's World Series of 3 event, Josh Burkman defeated Jon Fitch perhaps more impressively than anyone ever has, finishing Fitch in just 0:41 seconds of the first round. Burkman believes it is likely that, although prepared, Fitch underestimated just how much he had grown as a mixed martial artists:

"You know, I think it would be hard for Fitch to not underestimate me. I just don't think there is a way that Jon Fitch can understand how much I have improved as a martial artist just by watching me. So I think he probably didn't intentionally undeestimate me, but, I'm sure that he thought, you know, that he was going to come in and win because he was healthy and training real well.

So, I think that there's no way the he couldn't have underestimated me coming into this fight. I'm sure he expected to get back on top and get back in the win column."

Burkman: Arianny underestimated me until I tagged that ass right the first time, then she came correct.

Clearly, dude is legit.

Probably right. It looked like Fitch came in reckless thinking he was better than the Burkman and tried to put him away fast. He got tagged, dropped and finished early because of it.

I don't doubt he tried to make a point that he was better than the guys in WSOF and wanted to make a statement.

Burkman is a gentleman and scholar. Well spoken, humble. I look forward to his next fights. Phone Post

I figured Josh's only chance was to do what Hendricks did and end it early with a KO/TKO on Fitch coming in for a takedown. I figured it would be a decision by smother by Fitch. I was glad to see Josh win I have been a fan of his since his time on TUF. I didn't expect him to finish FItch via choke. Especially considering not even Maia could tap the guy. It was his first career loss by submission since his first fight. The guy had defended more submissions in the UFC than anyone. I was seriously impressed with Burkman in that fight.

Man, it is so crazy.

Sometimes I half-ass my job and maybe something minor happens.

You walk into a televised MMA main event not full-engaged, and you'll get hurt.

Mucho respect to people that do this.

I am always so happy to be on my little couch and watching. :)
