At one point there was back and forth between the 2 networks, then HBO had about a 10 year run where they seemed to dominate the sport acquiring all the top talent and landing the biggest fights on PPV. But lately, Showtime seems to be poaching alot of their fighters and putting on better shows. HBO still has ALOT of good fighters like Ward, Mike Garcia, JMM, Bradley, Pacquaio, Rios, etc. but it appears that a major shift in momentum is occurring in favor of Showtime.

Showtime has surpassed HBO. They have had big shake ups from the very top on down to the fighters they now have on the network. The production of their shows have improved ten fold. In the 90's-mid 2000's, HBO dominated the boxing programming. Showtime did have a lot of great fights, but the production part was behind. Now they not only have the better fights, but the have set the bar for what a boxing production should look like.

Showtime has always had boxing broadcasts, it's one of the only reasons I keep the network subscription. But lately instead of B-level cards they are landing ex-HBO fighters like PBF, Canelo, Cotto, Keith Thurman, Broner, etc.

Showtime seems to really be making a capital investment in boxing again, maybe it's the Strikeforce money being free'd up and re-deployed.

I really enjoy both Showtime and HBO from a production standpoint. The commentary on both sides is great and the hiring of Brian Kenny was a good move, that guy is all business, no bullshit. Great to be a boxing fan in 2013.

Also agree that Brian Kenny is the man

The best time of ESPN radio in NY was when Max Kellerman and Brian Kenny had their own show. Boxing talk all morning.

More people are still watching HBO boxing, but quality edge definitely goes to SHO.

I think HBO still has bigger budgets for its cards but they've completely severed ties with GBP which kills their access to probably like 25% of the top fighters in the world. That's why you won't see Hopkins/Stevenson on HBO, or Garcia/Matthysse, or of course Mayweather/Alvarez.

In general the TR vs. GBP feud is really hurting boxing. It's a lot like the PRIDE/UFC days when we wanted shit like Wand/Chuck and Hendo/Franklin but couldn't get them until one of the promotions unceremoniously kicked the bucket.

Showtime is bringing it.

But they need to sustain this for a while before they have surpassed HBO, imo. I think they will do it.

The level on talent on the two networks is fairly comparative now. Until the last year or so, HBO had always dominated, but Showtime staged a big coup recently in signing Floyd Mayweather and in bringing over a number of Al Haymond's fighters. Time will tell whether or the investment was a wise one. Phone Post

LOL, Jim Lampley is a dickhead. LOL@him on his soap box about the way Broner/Paulie was market'd. I guess he was okay with Mayoraga saying he wanted to literally kill De La Hoya in the ring though.

Golovkin will be fun to watch develop, dude reminds of Mattyese

HBO is the better product, more polished, and the better announcing team by far. They lost some stature when PBF left, hard to deny that. Phone Post 3.0

The MW division is disappointing me right now. You've got good fighters there (Martinez, Golovkin, Geale, Quillin, Sturm, Chavez) but almost no fights between them being made. Almost every fight is one of those guys in the list versus a B-level or C-level guy. I'm not paying for Martinez/Chavez II, either. Maybe if Chavez beats one of the other guys in that list then I'll be up for it.

GBP better fucking make Garcia/Matthysse, too.
