After months of jockeying in court, UFC President Dana White now believes that the best path for Eddie Alvarez may be to return to Bellator MMA, despite his ferociously voiced desire to fight in the UFC. This follows the announcement that, barring a settlement, Alvarez will not even appear in court to argue his case until Sept, of 2014.

"He should fight for [Bellator]," White said Monday. "First of all, they have every right – he signed a contract, and they have every right to him. But at least pay the kid the money. (That's) the reason that you get that clause in your contract where you get out find out what you're worth. You get to get out there and shop around and see what Eddie Alvarez is worth. Well, Eddie Alvarez found out what he's worth, and they've refused to pay him that. It's bulls---."

"So now this kid's life and his career have been in limbo here while they're in this battle. That's dirty boxing s---. That's what boxing does. Boxing tries to tie you up and make so you can't make any money and all this s---. We've never done that to anybody, ever."

"Just pay him or let him go."

Dana means that Bellator should actually match the UFC's offer. Eddie himself and the UFC believe that Bellator didn't actually match UFC'S offer, hence this entire quandary.

Even Dana knows that Bellator matched the UFCs offer

Its about guaranteed money, not game show bonus money and "potential" ppv money, go look at what the buys are for LW title fights recently on ppv's, the ppv bonus probably wouldn't even be that much with a Eddie vs Benson or whoever title fight

More guaranteed money is what offers need to have

Gotcha. The way he worded it sounds weird. I thought the issue was that bellator can't match the ufc's offer because of the ppv points anyway. It's not like they don't want to pay him; eddies the one saying their offer isn't good enough. Phone Post 3.0

Sucks for Eddie.  Chandler/Askren and others need to wait out the matching clause if they dont want to be stuck in this situation.

Yeah, sucks for Eddie, but will be interesting is what will happen with the next guy

If ppv points don't mean anything for a matching clause, than if the UFC really wants a guy they will have to offer more then what they did for Eddie, closer to Lombard money. The UFC doesnt want to offer to much and screw up there pay structure and have other guys complaining, they love the bonus money and ppv points angle

Eddie was in a bad spot, he was second, Lombard got the big money and than they had to test the waters with Eddie, the third guy will now get a better offer

I think Dana White should mind his own business.  Bellator is here to stay, they are going no where.  They don't need Dana's advice on anything.

Eddie should follow through with his contract and start fighting for what was agreed on. He's fighting a battle he can't win.

What Dana and Co will do next time is offer a huge signing bonus, fat ass base pay, and no bonus or points for a three fight contract.

Two fights in, they'll renegotiate to a more standard deal. Phone Post 3.0

I think Eddie's too far invested in this fight to go back now. It'd be all for nothing. Phone Post 3.0

Eddie was there biggest star. So they are fighting tooth and nail to keep him. The same way ZUFFA would if it was Anderson or GSP.

It's not just about guaranteed money for Alvarez. It's about the whole contract. Bellator's matching contract was disingenuous at best. They don't have a product capable of even selling 15k ppvs and they know it. Just look at what TNA is capable of selling and they are years ahead of Bellator popularity wise.

I hope Alvarez is able to stick to his guns and go the distance with his court case. Working for a shady employer like Bellator is not something anybody with a shred of decency wants to do.

Also, don't forget the timeline, not until after the match and issues started the UFC said they were going to put him on a gsp or Jones headlined card, that wasn't in the contract, they threw those cards in AFTER they already knew Eddie couldn't fight for them

the UFC fucked up by not gauranteeing PPV fights, even just the first one, that would have strengthened his case greatly.

Cause even if they were gonna put him on a March/april PPV like they said ti wasnt guaranteed so Bellator lied to the judge and said they had a PPV fight vs Chandler planned even though Chandler didnt know about it.

So had Bellator won they could just say we didnt put him on PPV cause we didnt have to, it wasnt gauranteed.

If they guarnateed it then the court would say a compnay that has a proven record on PPV vs a company that doesnt, thats probably not a real match and Eddie might have been granted that injuction to fight at 159.

That one word might have ended this already.  UFC should look at that going forward, you dont have to guarantee all fights on PPV just guarantee atleast one fight and that means Bellator would have to do PPV and then comparing the two orgs on PPV would favor the UFC.  A judge could then say its not a real match cause Bellator isnt capable of doing PPV like the UFC.
