Having won his last two bouts with devastating knockouts, Vitor Belfort recently campaigned on a Twitter for a bout with the winner of Saturday's UFC 162 main event. However, the scenario is unlikely:

“The hard position that Vitor is in is when you talk about a rematch for him. (Silva) went out and kicks him in the face in the first 60 seconds for one of the most devastating knockouts of all time,” said UFC president Dana White following the UFC 162 pre-fight press conference on Thursday.

“So when you go back to Anderson Silva, who is in the twilight of his career, and you say to a guy like Anderson, what about Vitor? ‘I annihilated Vitor.  I got other fights that I wanna fight.’ You talk about his legacy and his this and his that. Those are tough fights to make,” added White.

yeah but those are pretty different scenarios in that cain was a badass new prospect in a shallow division where titles change hands every 2-3 fights, vitor wasn't particularly impressive in an already deep division at the time. He looks better thanks to TRT now but it still weights the situation toward Silva when silva has been running the division for half a decade. You need to make it competitive to get a guaranteed rematch at MW.

not different at all. uncle fester is using Vitor getting front kicked in the 1st round against him in a rematch, when Cain got KTFO just as fast.

Not shit, and I think you are missing the point of it all.

Why would Silva want this fight? What would be the point, for him? Silva doesn't have many fights remaining in him. He has done it all, and beaten everyone. He more than deserves the respect of letting him go out how he wants to.

He knows Silva would say no. Plus it would be an image disaster if a guy on steroids ended Silva's streak. Phone Post

Cain was a champion and clearly was better than getting KO'd that fast, a more fair comparison would be Bigfoot Silva getting a shot at Cain. If Bigfoot can get a shot at Cain then Vitor deserves another too and i don't even like Vitor.

Right now vitor with his 2 brutal, recent kos over guys at the top of the division is much much much much more deserving of a title shot than a guy who beat a borderline top guy in Munoz then sat on the shelf for a year Phone Post 3.0

Cain/JDS isn't the same situation, at all.

Belfort is just another victim on Andy's list. Cain had just won the strap, and that was his first defense.

I would agree that with another win, Vitor should get the shot. Maybe Mousasi, winner gets it (I know Mousasi hasn't done much in the UFC, but who else is there really to challenge for it?)

Also, Vitor is 2-1 in his last three, and had another 2-1 stint before that. Granted, they are championship losses, and his four wins since '10 are Rockhold, Bisping, Rumble and Akiyama. Yes, that's a solid list, but earning a rematch the way he lost should justifiably be a bit tougher than calling the champ out on 2 wins.

How many MWs have 5-fight winning streaks, or close to that, and haven't fought Andy yet?

Add that he has, although not fully displayed, the skills to potentially beat Silva (I don't believe it, buy hey, he's got a better chance than most), and he really is the most interesting matchup now.

Silva's situation is almost exactly the same as the heavyweight division. You have a bunch of "contenders" that have either lost their last fight or only on a 1-fight winning streak and then guys he's already beat such as Okami and Belfort. If he beats Weidman, his only real options at MW are Belfort and Okami/Jacare. Oh, and I guess Philippou - which I'm sure Silva would throw a little hissy fit about fighting since he isn't that well-known.

And why did the UFC let Belfort dispose of 2 new potential contenders in Bisping and Rockhold if they won't let him fight Silva again? It's a waste of time.

The MW division is the literal opposite of the HW division. MW has a long-standing champ who has defeated all comers soundly for more than a half decade.

HW is a constant toss up where no one defends the title more than a time or three. How could they be more different?

Dana is just saying this because he knows if Vitor ever became the champ he'd have a hard as hell time getting licensed in the US.
