The UnderGround, Mayor

Great post. I have always been a huge fan.

I saw him and his girlfriend do an MMA demo in Japan that was truly beautiful, and it was just slow sparring.

Father of the Flying Knee, too.

He didn't KO frank though, he dropped him, fell out of the ring and his head hit the floor if I remember correrctly, but he did beat him pretty good

Kondo is a legend of Japanese MMA... Having said that, was his headkick "KO" of Frank Shamrock legit? Looked a bit questionable to me and Pancrase had occasional works back then.

Natural WW/MW that didnt find a lot of success due to the lack of weight classes.

Him vs Saku would have been fun

I'm going to share my fight, because it was so damn fun and fast paced for the most part, right after Saulo destruction before 3 UFC Fights. Fought way bigger guys often

If anyone can help me find fights of his from like the last 7 yrs or so let me know, got the couple Sengoku ones, but a lot of the Pancrase fights are hard to find (without downloading 120 gb and even then most missing)

He sure lost a lot of size/bulk when he went over to PRIDE...not sure that was a good time to start doing that vs Igor and Wand.

His head kick of Frank was cool, if a little goofy, and possibly worked.

Loved his fight with Hendo, and remember thinking that Kondo legitimately won. Hendo would blame the flu or something but it was a good showing that Kondo should be respected for.

And LOL @ wiki listing Kondo beating Wandy via stomps. Must be a big fan! OP? ;-) Phone Post 3.0

Agreed. He is one of the best from the mid to late 90s era. He is q legend of the sport but he hardly ever gets mentioned alongside people like Shamrock, Bas Rutten, Igor and all those.
Great fighter the masses need to be educated on. Phone Post

GREAT POST!!!

The thing that amazed me most about Kondo is that almost every time I would see him in the ring or cage he would be fighting someone two or three weight classes above him, and he would still hang!

Wanderlai Silva was actually one of the SMALLER examples of this!

Wasn't Yuki Kondo a student of Yuki Akai (spelling???) from the 'Choke' (Rickson Gracie) documentary (Rickson's final opponent in that film)? I don't know...I ad heard that somewhere on here a long time ago.

Yuki Kondo did traditional martial arts (kenpo iirc) and then trained at pancraseism (spelling) I believe Funaki's protege? Phone Post 3.0
