Although Benson Henderson lost to Anthony Pettis in the last ever WEC lightweight title, he ended up the UFC lightweight champion first and is anxious to erase that loss and solidify his title beating the only guy he's lost to in the last six years:

The switch from Grant to Pettis is a "curveball," Henderson said, but nothing he hasn't dealt with in the past. And with five and a half weeks remaining until fight night, there's plenty of time for Henderson to properly prepare. The fact is Henderson had already cut down on the length of training camps because, Crouch said, "he works too hard and beats his body up.” Since they were just about to get in the gym to prepare for Grant, "timing is just fine," the trainer said.

Henderson sees the scenario in front of him as typical, which means there's no such thing as a perfect situation in MMA. At a minimum, Pettis is a guy with a chance, and that's all any fighter requires to pull off something special. This is how the lightweight champion processed Chris Weidman’s stunning victory over Anderson Silva: “The reason why we fight is that any given day the best can lose.”

Pettis, of course, is no long shot. Oddsmakers have pegged the challenger, who’s fighting in his hometown, as the slight favorite.

"It doesn't matter to me where it's at, who's it against, what hometown," Henderson said. "Bump all that noise. It doesn't matter to me. I'm going to beat him up. At the end of the night I'm going to get my hand raised."

Agreed. I think it will be a great fight, but I see Pettis doing something crazy late in the fight like the last one, but this time finishing Bendo.

5th round KO for Pettis.

Great. Sounds like Bendo has already accepted the fact that he's going to look for another decision. He should be saying "I'm going to KO him!" or "I'm going to finish him!"

Best thing for the division is to have a champ who finishes fights and WANTS to and not a guy who wants to spend as much time in the ring as possible to promote his vanity, play with his hair and swagger through the whole fight.

By beat up he means go tit for tat, and hope the judges favor him again.

But what really will happen is Pettis having Bendo crying at the post-fight presser again.

Bendo does not aim to go to decisions. Do not be ignorant. Regardless of a track record of close decisions its damn obvious he tries to finish people.

Don't act like pettis is finishing people ben couldn't or hasnt. Phone Post

Yes sir. Fighting Melendez and Edgar is quite different from fighting Guida(lol), Stephens, Lauzon and Cerrone. Haters gonna hate.

Bendo probably couldn't finish first round Joe in the first round. Lauzon's previous finishes suffered were a product of gassing.

Don't act like Pettis would ever have 8 straight decisions, 5 in 5-rounders, the way he kicks.

Benson tries to finish, and ain't boring like some argue, but his level of finishing ability and excitement are inferior to Pettis. That's the reality.

What about Bocek, Miller, and Diaz? Diaz is durable, but he just got finished by someone with worse kicks than Pettis. and Bocek and Miller are too slow for Pettis.

Very few fighters could last a majority stand-up fight with Pettis. They need to go for TD's and stall to survive and possibly win 15-25 minutes. Pettis will never even come close to a streak of 8 fights without a finish.

Bocek fight was pretty close but the Miller fight was pretty brutal and could've been easily stopped. Diaz just got finished for the first time ever. I'm just saying Bendo is fighting much better competition than Pettis.

And yes, Pettis is a really tough matchup for Ben and the first fight showed that Pettis was the better fighter then/that night. Let's see what happens next.

And Pettis will never even get to a 8 fight streak if he loses to Guida and has a tough time with Stephens.

I think you are clearly underestimating thompson.
