omega 2013 - this coming from the man that won't challenge the champ b/c they are friends. also dana doesn't want the top of his divisions ruled by african americans...

still don't see why so many people think fighting a close training partner is a normal thing to do... fighting has a lot of emotion and animosity that goes into it. When you have a team you open up with them and share what you have and grow together.

You get shit fights when friends fight because they often want the other to succeed, which is a total mind fuck when in combat.

Cormier is on the daily grind with Cain Velasquez and people think he is lazy? That's a bit of a stretch!

It's far more likely his physique is an issue of diet not work rate... you can run and work hard all day but if you're already carrying some fat and not eating at a caloric deficit or sneaking ice cream and cheeseburgers cause you don't have to cut weight you're never gonna look ripped. Doesn't mean you're lazy in the gym!

Seems like he's got his diet under control showing a nice gradual drop in weight over the last year, the slower the better as he'll preserve more muscle and strength!

We still havn't seen Jon put on his back yet - some people thought Sonnen was the man to go in there, get in his face and get him to the ground but when the time came he seemed hesistant and showed Jon to much respect instead of really going for broke.

DC won't show Jon the same respect and should be the first person to really get in his face and try dump him on his butt. He might still get subbed or KO'd but I really think DC is the most legit threat to Jon right now.

I'd like to see DC fight at least one of the top 5 @ LHW before Jones just so he gets a feel for cutting weight again if nothing else. Should be good!

I agree with some of your post, but you shouldn't comment on the Jones/Sonnen fight because its obvious you did not watch it.

Sonnen went at Jones like a mad man, throwing wildly with a lot of in your face pressure. That lead to the clinch, in which Chael felt Jon's power and was taken down and beaten up. There was no "Chael showing jones too much respect." Just Chael getting out classed. Phone Post 3.0

I did watch the fight I think I just worded it slightly wrong and gave you the wrong impression. I should of specified " he seemed hesistant and showed Jon to much respect instead of really going for broke for the takedown".

You're correct Sonnen did indeed get in his face right from the bell but he was trying to strike with Jon not take him down. I didn't mean he hesitated in getting in his face I meant he hesitated in shooting for a takedown and opted to try and strike with him first probably in an attempt to open up a better opportunity for a takedown.

Go watch the fight again yourself man. Sonnen attempted 0 takedowns the entire fight and he had some chances to at least try for one. Sonnen came in throwing a leg kick and initiating some striking, they exchange a couple of times and Jon ducks under clinches and takes him down.

Sonnen gets back to his feet they're trying to punch each other from the clinch they seperate Chael moves towards him tries to strike and again they exchange before Jon ducks under again initiates the clinch and takes him down yet again.

At no point did Sonnen shoot for or even attempt a takedown, I believe he had so much respect for Jon's defensive wrestling skills and range so he wanted to try set up a decent opening for a takedown by striking with him first only Jon beat him to the takedown each and every time.

http://hosteddb.fightmetric.com/fights/index/4238\

Takedowns

Jones 3 of 6

Sonnen 0 of 0

I think DC will at least attempt a takedown on JJ and I also think DC is stronger than Sonnen in the clinch. I'm pretty confident DC will at some point drag him to the mat at least once - he might still get subbed or KO'd but I think hes got the best chance to put JJ on his back out of everyone at LHW.

It's often the "wrong game plan" when a fighter loses. If he clipped Jones with one of those punches and KO'd him then he would have been praised for out striking him like Weidman/Silva. Like you said Chael was trying to set up a takedown with striking, you can't just bullrush a double like people expect. Because he couldn't find an opening doesn't mean he had the wrong game plan or didn't pull the trigger, it means he was unable to create the opening.

He had the chance in the several times they clinched, but Jones was the more powerful.

Sonnen/Jones goes the same way 9/10 times, 1 fight being generous on punchers chance. Phone Post 3.0

^oh and as far as DC being stronger in the clinch, that is probably the only thing jones has to worry about. I don't see him shooting for any takedowns either, or out striking jones. He's going to press forward and try to box him against the cage, or TD in the clinch. Phone Post 3.0

I'm more annoyed by the ongoing trend for fans to berate any fighter that says anything to the media ever. It's getting more tired than the generic comments fighters say when asked stupid questions, or the actual stupid questions themselves.

interviewer: DO U THINK U CAN BEAT THIS FIGHTER?

fighter: uh, probably

fans: OMG WHAT A DOUCHE! WHAT A DELUSIONAL FUCKTARD! i HATE HIM HE'S SO FULL OF HIMSELF! GLOBAL WARMING IS FAKE! I GOT ABUSED AS A CHILD!

the real issue is that the MMA media tries to be overly sensational, but they aren't intelligent or experienced enough. I feel like a ton of the guys involved in it are just trying to attach their name to a relatively new sport because they aren't good enough to cut it elsewhere when you actually get scrutinized and have to offer up real analysis or godforbid make a damn point.

^This.

I don't get the complaints about how certain guys are "talking too much" when they simply respond to questions from reporters in the press events that they're required to attend in order to promote the cards.

And Jones getting shit for what he's said about Cormier is ridiculous. Cormier's been running his mouth about Jones at every opportunity for a year and a half. I'm honestly surprised that Jones has said this little in response.

I am not a fan of this dropping weight and cutting the line trend..... Pettis was atleast the #1 contendor in his division. DC needs to fight his way to the 205 title shot.

I'm waiting for the evidence that DC's teammates said he was lazy. There's a reference to kidney failure on his wiki page but the reference link is dead.

BTW, I don't get the Jones hate either. He's a cool dude.

I really hope DC does not get to jump to the head of the line but I bet he does. It will be ridiculous though if it happens. It would still be dumb if he was the former HW champ but he is not even the #1 contender in the division he is in. He needs to go to the back of the line and prove himself at lhw if he wants a shot at the champ and being the friend of Cain should not have him jump ahead.

Yep, I agree with both your posts man. I think you're right that Sonnen vs Jones would go the same 9 outta 10 times even if he did go for a takedown I only used it as an example that nobody has really gone after the takedown and relentlessly tried to put Jon on his back yet - a lot of people thought Sonnen or Rashad would do it but neither did.

I also agree that DC will probably try to push him up against the cage which is what I think makes this fight so interesting. DC was able to make a big guy like Frank Mir look like a child in the clinch against the cage at times and was able to lift and slam a heavy guy like Josh Barnett in the 3rd round with a broken hand. If he keeps cutting slowly and is only really losing the fat and not much muscle he's gonna be a big strong guy with a very solid wrestling base @ LHW.

My point is, if DC can get him up against the cage I think he has the power and skill to potentially be the first to put JJ on his back - what happens after that is anybodys guess. Jon may pop straight back up, he might sub him he might even KO him before DC can get him near the fence, who knows! But I do think DC is the most legit threat to JJ right now because of this.

I also dont get all the hate about DC dropping and getting a shot at Bones either. Jones last two fights where against Sonnen coming off a loss to Silva and a win against Stann & Bisping and Vitor coming off a loss to Silva and wins against AJ and Akiyama both guys MW's without recent fights @ LHW at all.

If Bones beats Gustaffson the division starts to look pretty thin outside of rematches. Glover & Davis are your next options and are either of those two guys really that much more deserving than DC?

DC is undefeated, SF HW GP champ, ranked #2 HW contender by the UFC right now and his last two wins are against the two guys who recently challenged for the belt @ HW in Mir and Bigfoot. He's only fighting Nelson cause Cain & Junior are tied up with a fight and he wont fight Cain for the belt anyway.

I do think he should fight at least one other top guy at LHW probably Glover or Davis not just to be deserving of a shot but more to make sure the cut goes well and he's still able to perform at the same level in that division.

Outlaw'd by Lytle - Americans are strange creatures. As soon as one of your own becomes a world champion they're engulfed by an avalanche of hate.

What's that all about? Phone Post 3.0
Our country is full of spineless liberals Phone Post 3.0
It's quite unique to America. Most countries fully support their champions.

America seems to despise their own in a savage, relentless fashion.

Bones receives an unfathomable amount of hate for such a talented young kid.

I see Weidmans beginning to get the same treatment now he's had the nerve to become champion.

Is this what happens to those who realise 'the American dream'? Phone Post 3.0

Up until the early 90's it was "cool" to be patriotic. Some how then Political Correctness took hold (coincides Ironically when Clinton came into office) and now if your "patriotic" the intellectually "elite" look at you like your some dumb hillbilly from the mountains.

I would say it happened more recently cause everyone was patriotic after 9/11 but as soon after the Iraq war came into play patriotism took a sharp turn downwards and what you mentioned took place
If these reasons are the cause then why do all Americans not receive this hate?

Only the best seem to get the hate, it makes zero sense?

"Hey look at this super talented kid"

"Yeah he's awesome, world champion in his chosen discipline"

"Really? I fucking hate him, look how he dresses, speaks, laughs. What a fucking douche".

I find it bizarre and confusing that you treat your own in this manner. Phone Post 3.0

Liberals are raised to believe that life should be fair and everyone should be equal. When they see someone who is cleary more talented or someone who is willing to work much harder than them, it doesn't compute, they don't understand. And out pours the hate.
