THANK YOU. Finally some HW rankings make sense. I'm a huge fan of Roy Nelson, but people putting him above Stipe made very little sense. Phone Post 3.0

Just because you beat a guy, doesn't mean you immediately ascend above them on the rankings. If that were the case Davis would be number 2... but Evans has lost to Machida and beat Davis. Davis didn't put up a performance worthy of putting him much higher than he was. Machida's performance should have dropped his stock. Two guys have a bad fight, they should slide down the rankings. Just like college football.

Although in college football, a number 2 can lose to a number 9 and still end up higher than them in the coaches poll on monday. Food for thought.

Here's the thing. First of all, the fight was VERY close, and most people, including myself had Machida winning.

Then you look at the body of work, Machida is a former champ, has KO'd Rashad, Thiago Silva, Ryan Bader and Randy Couture, and he also beat Hendo, Shogun and Tito. Machida lost a BS decision to Rampage and Davis, was KO'd by Shogun and choked out by Jones after being the only man to ever win a round on JBJ,

Phil Davis beat Nog, Vinny, Prado and Tito, and he got destroyed by Rashad.

I just think Maxhida's body of work is so much better and the fight was so close, that puts Machida still above Davis for me.

it's an interesting concept. the UFC now polls select members of the media. What if we created a system that allowed every UG member to put in a top ten in each weight class and we released an aggregate rankings?

Also, we know who the champions are so we are not including them in the rankings. So if you would start #1 with your #1 ranked guy who is not the champion.

Thanks.

TappedOutTryingToPickettMcdonald's - What exactly is the beef with the UFC rankings? Phone Post 3.0

Well there are a couple that seem odd, like having Nelson ahead of Stipe even though he just got beat by him. Sonnen in 2 divisons, things people just don't agree on.

Plus, the UFC does have an agenda. They have tickets to sell and fights to promote so their rankings are reflective of that.

So this is a chance for the UG to combine their collective knowledge and see what we can come up with for a ranking.

Rantuckjr - Here is what i propose. The UFC can't get their official rankings right, so why dont we set up our own? Is there any interest in doing a UG Rankings? I will track it and post the rankings each month.

My idea is that each poster is allowed to post their official rankings per division once per month. Muds (like myself) rankings get counted once. Blue name rankings (and greens withouth major organization experience) get double the weight. Fighters in major organizations (if they choose to participate) will carry 3 times the weight as muds. Once we reach a pre-determined number of posters that have submitted their rankings, i will calculate our official UG rankings.

Some details need to be worked through like can guys appear in more than one weight class? If you have fought 2 or more times in a row at a weight, that is your new class. How many posters do we get before the rankings are calculated.

Let me know if you are interested and i will get this thing going.

You need about 1000 voters to make sure you can shake out the subjective bunch that always comes with stuff like this.

Or just go with a group of 3-5 that you can count on every week/ month.

Anything in between will be a mess. Just look at the UFC rankings, they are terrible.

Or just sit back and enjoy the best MMA rankings around, the USA TODAY Sports and MMAjunkie.com rankings. Follow here: http://www.mmajunkie.com/rankings
