http://espn.go.com/mma/story/_/id/9587583/bellator-ready-deal-welterweight-ben-askren-ufc

From the Article:

"I don't think we're going to make an offer at this point," Bjorn Rebney, Bellator MMA chairman and CEO, told ESPN.com. "So I don't see any reason to make anybody sit out.

"If Ben's going to go to the UFC, we should speed up that process so he can go fight. I'd love to see Ben versus GSP," Rebney added, referring to Georges St-Pierre.

"If the UFC does make an offer, we'll take a look at it and move on from there," Rebney said. "We haven't been proactive yet. I have nothing but good things to say about Ben as a fighter, but we're all very aware of how he fights and what he does -- it's not for everyone."

Bellator: We arent interested in keeping our welterweight champion. We prefer having someone we KNOW isnt the best hold the belt. It solidifies our quest to be a second rate MMA organisation.

Wow! Lol.. I can't say I blame Bellator, but really???? No interest in trying to keep your own welterweight champion? That's pretty interesting and almost ridiculous. Phone Post

Good move IMO. Askren is a ratings killer tbh. Beyond that, I am in agreement with wanting to see him vs GSP.

Askren vs Sheilds.. make it.. That's a fuckin sport killer right there.

Exactly this. I've no doubt that's why he's said this.

I'm sure he remembers Dana's decision to go to war with SF over Jake Shields when he was on a tear.

Yep.

If Bjorn REALLY isn't interested, he should waive his matching rights and let Ben be a truly 'free' agent. Of course, he won't do that. He's hoping the UFC lowballs Ben so that he can swoop in and get him on the cheap.

I see some see this as a good move by Bellator but it is fucking Askren in the process.

Hey lets say he is boring and we aren't interested so we can keep him for cheap.

And yet we still hear cries that the fighters don't get paid enough. Smh Phone Post

No need to. They don't need him that bad. There's plenty of contenders right now where they could give him a top 5 guy first. Phone Post 3.0

Nice

but he's not just letting him go... if he's letting him go then he should release askren from the matching clause so he can be an unrestricted free agent.

This is a 3 man dance. Bellator, UFC and Askren. Askren might just decide to sit this one out.

So much for Bellator's claims of being about 'pure sport'.

Bjorn is flat-out admitting that he doesn't give a shit about Ben's ability as a sportsman. He only cares about whether he is entertaining. This is the equivalent of the NBA cutting the championship-era San Antonio Spurs because they were boring and no one wanted to watch them. That would never happen in a 'pure sport'.
