Technically, if we are looking at the UFC, since most of the sample came from that org, the sample is around 10% of the population. That is not bad, obviously the efficacy of the poll depends on how varied the results are across the population, desired confidence levels, etc...

That being said, polling 10% of the UFC fighters is not a tight sample, but definitely not statistically insignificant, by any means. Phone Post 3.0

Do you guys know how a poll works? If you want to find out what 25-35 year-old women watch on TV you don't poll EVERY SINGLE 25-35 year-old woman. Not even half, Not a quarter. Not a tenth.

TV ratings, politics, you name it usually use a very small sample size. For a TV show they may sample 1k people and project the results for 300+ million. So 38 is more than enough, if they did it properly, considering the number of pro MMA fighters.

38 makes me think they polled the fighters from a particular area. Guys with similar circumstances. Phone Post

Um that maybe the norm but if you want better accuracy you get a larger sampling base, considering the total amount of fighters under contract with the UFC is small, a larger poll will get it more legitimacy.

Politics 101, the smaller the sampling, the less credibility it has.

No thanks. Unions belong in the 60's. We don't need them to ruin MMA too.

I would like to see what number of the fighters are lower tier guys, mid tier, "elite", etc.
If 37 of the 38 were low level guys making $8k/fight that would mean the avg. income is $16k/yr (based off of 2 fights/yr). Add in one elite guy making 2 mil/yr and that raises it to $68210/yr.
With this small of a sample size it's hard to get a real good idea on how many guys really want a union.

Excellent point. The median is definitely more important with this type of survey Phone Post 3.0

This would've been real fun if they'd of had everyone on the UFC's roster participating, and some 3rd party collecting the data.

I'd want them to ask how many of the fighters are gay. Just out of curiosity.

There have been a good number of threads on this topic over the years.

Food for thought: when an employer has complete control over a worker's rights, is that fair?
