He's right.

Look how many people roll into MMA and become successful!

Ray Mercer knocked THE FUCK out of an ex UFC HW Champ, for gods sake! Tim Sylvia would get EATEN ALIVE by ANY top 10 HW Boxer, let alone someone who isn't even on the brink of being in the rankings.

With Boxing you have to learn for YEARS to perfect your craft.

Do you know how long it takes to perfect the jab, left hook and the defensive aspect of the game? Fucking years, that's how long.

MMA is easier to pick up because there are more aspects to it.

You really only need one base to be good and you can go a long way. See Ben Askren, Mirko, Tito etc...

Will you find MMA in the Olympics? Fuck no.

I love MMA, but let's not kid ourselves that it's a sport.

It's a spectacle, first and foremost. And to be honest, it's only a couple of rungs on the ladder above Crossfit, IMO.

Ray Mercer vs Tim Sylvia was a bout between two washed up, out of shape heavyweights. And Ben Askren, Mirko and Tito were successful because they had to learn to perfect their craft and then spend years adding to it. Ben Askren becoming as good as he is at wrestling prior to MMA is just like Adrien becoming as good as he is in boxing. Now Ben is becoming great at implementing it in a real fight. Adrien might have the ability to be an MMA champ, but it would take years of training.

Those one dimensional fighters you mention took YEARS to perfect those areas just the same. They also added other skillsets whether you want to acknowledge them or not.

If you can't strike with someone in MMA, you might be able to take them down. Then throw in the ground game...

You know what happens if you're in a Boxing match and you can't outstrike your opponent? You get your ass beat.

Tito was WRECKING people and his striking NEVER evolved, his submission game didn't really get used until he met Bader...

By your same retarded argument, the Couture/Toney bout actually meant something too.. Seeing as Mercer vs Sylvia was so important.

They are completely different sports. Boxers work on one thing, but in a real fight that one thing will only take them so far. Adrien Broner is a piece of human trash, so it's no surprise what he says.

BTW, boxing is probably my favorite sport. But you're just flat out wrong about everything. It's easier for one dimensional athletes to dominate in MMA when they are REALLY FUCKING GOOD at their one chosen discipline, because in MMA there are so many different ways to lose. But even that doesn't always happen. Look at guys like Roger Gracie and other single MA specialists. They HAVE to evolve. In boxing, there is only one way to lose. That's why people can't just jump in so quickly. They have only one thing to work on, which other competitors have been working on their whole lives.

I mean that statement (crossfit etc) in terms of how MMA is viewed as a sport.

It's not much in front of being viewed as a sport than CF.

For all the "We're bigger than Manchester United" and "We're in 77 countries etc" that Dana spews, MMA will NEVER be on par with Football, Tennis, Boxing, Golf etc.

It might be popular, but a Sport it is not.

The whole point of MMA is that it is a SET of skills and not a single skill.

Boxing
Kickboxing
Wrestling
Submissions

You've got to have the whole package to be successful.

Yes, people who focus on boxing or focus on wrestling or focus on subs will have a better game IN THAT ONE AREA than the generalist. And if the generalist is fool enough to play the specialist's game, then he SHOULD lose.
