Wow... didn't see that one coming. Can't wait to see BJ in action again. Although he wasn't the greatest coach on the show.

In other news Andy Wang drops to 145.

I'm super stoked to see bj at 145. But against Frankie? Meh. I'd rather see him against someone more exciting who isn't just a point fighter... Phone Post 3.0

Delighted to see BJ back. But against Frankie Edgar? when was the last time someone was 0-2 and got a 3rd match? Would have preferred if Urijah Faber jumped up a weight class and coached against BJ and then fought him. Phone Post

JJSFC - As excited I am for BJ's drop to 145lbs, what has he done to justify a third fight with Frankie? Phone Post 3.0
He's BJ Penn, a former two division champ who is dropping down two weight classes to fight. Did I mention that he's BJ Penn, and most likely your father. Phone Post 3.0

BJ just lost a 3 round decision to someone who could easily fight at 185lb and now he is dropping to 145lb to avenge his two rather close decision losses to Frankie Edgar and this does nothing for you? You either don't love BJ or you have no soul! Do you have red hair by chance? Phone Post 3.0

If the judges were different, they might be 1-1 against each other. Plus dropping 2 weight classes is a fresh start.
What happens if BJ were to lose? That's three losses to Frankie including one make or break fight in a new weight class.

I can understand they're both bigger names at 145 (the biggest apart from Aldo), but I find it a little strange to me.

I can't see BJ wanting to fight again at 145lbs if he can't top Edgar at the third time of asking. I'm excited for his comeback irregardless. Phone Post 3.0

I think he is getting in the best shape possible and seeing if he can be champ again. If he loses, i see him retiring for good.

Frankie is one of the most exciting guys in the UFC. If you haven't enjoyed at least his last 5 fights then you need a lot more happiness in your life. Phone Post 3.0

badrun - Not only is this fight lackluster, it's also very hard to believe that BJ Penn can make 145.
Have you met him, he can make 45! Phone Post 3.0

Voted UP Feelz Good.  I thought the same thing.  Except the father part, but that works too.

I know I am not the only one who has thought for a long time that BJ's frame would be ideal at 145.   Even an in-shape, motivated, Penn at 155 has still always looked like he could pretty easily drop a class.

This is a very interdasting development.

I would *assume* that BJ will be doing some serious, serious cardio to cut the weight.  Which will also address BJ's major (only?) weakness.

So let's review...

BJ will fight at 145 (Marv, please..)
Was the 155 champ
Was the 170 champ
Went 2-0 at 185
And fought Machia when Machia weighed 220...

How can anyone disparage this man???
