Frankie Edgar beat BJ Penn twice, and in an appearance on UFC Tonight said he thinks he has Penn's number, and may retire him.

First of course the pair will coach opposite each other on Season 19 of The Ultimate Fighter.

"I do think I have his number," said Edgar. "Every fight is different. I'm going to approach this as a new challenge. I'm not thinking he's going to come in the same as he did the last two. I expect him to come in and change a little. I want to show my improvement over the last three years. I think he was kind of close to retirement and I think another loss will maybe decide it for him."

What do you think UG? Could Frankie Edgar retire BJ Penn?

I don't particularly like either fighter, but Edgar will walk away with a win here, and hopefully Penn will finally get the message Phone Post 3.0

I'm calling it right now.  Frankie Edgar finishes BJ Penn in the third fight.  BJ retires.  MMA gods punish Frankie for the remainder of his career.

AND WE AS MMA FANS WILL WEEP.

BJ may retire after the fight, but I don't see Frankie "retiring" him. I personally expect BJ to come in the best shape of his life, and this to be a great fight.

It has already been proven you can't "retire" BJ by whooping his ass.

I wish he'd retire BJ's idiotic fan base. The worst, most deluded wackos in the sport. I'm a firm believer of separation of church and sport. Keep religion out of MMA.

You never know, but although Edgar did appear to have BJ's number in that second fight, he was gifted a decision, and the belt in their first fight. So I tend to read more into his comment about the kind of shape BJ will be in, especially when there's the inference that he easily dominated Penn twice. Untrue. Edgar is a great fighter, and arguably top five in two different weight classes. That said, War BJ! Phone Post 3.0

He doesn't say "I'll retire bj" although I guess "I think he was kind of close to retirement and I think another loss will maybe decide it for him." Isn't a snappy thread title. Phone Post 3.0

penn wont retire, he'll just be another 1 of those well past their best taking a beating just for the money, not that im gona complain as i like nothing better than seeing penn take a beating.

I can't see Frankie giving him a Diaz style tuning that makes him look like he should hang em up though can you? Phone Post 3.0
