UFC GYM kids boxing trainer Allias Aguilar, only 15 years old, gets challenged by a 20 year old (so called street fighter) in front of Allias's students and gets his ASS BEAT, he's lucky Allias took it easy on him

Cool video, but my god, that grammar hurt my brain.

I see no issue with his grammar. Phone Post

More importantly, if your brain can't decipher his sentence you need to stop reading forums.

He attempts to communicate that Allias Aguilar beat the twenty year old's ass, but the construction of his sentence, regarding said ass beating, indicates that it was Allias receiving the beating.  The word "his," in "his ASS BEAT," refers to Allias.  The writer complicates matters further by in the same sentence using additional personal pronouns to refer to the twenty year old, a direct contradiction of his previous clause (which was itself a contradiction of his intended meaning).  It was also obnoxious that the second use of the name Allias should have been replaced with "his."  What sort of a jake would say, for example, "Klein Helmer gets challenged by a complete rube in front of Klein Helmer's audience"?  Finally, though this changes occasionally, I strongly object to the forming of a possessive, as it pertains to a name ending with S, with an apostrophe and an additional S.

In other words, swing and a miss.

Nah, it's fine. Alley started it, and Klein's response was suitably hilarious.

Yep. Alley was beat down in much the same fashion as the 20 year old in the video. I thought it was funny. =)

I disagree with the people saying the older kid would have won a street fight.  Three shots does not equal a definite KO (unless these posters know the 20 year old and that he has some crazy power?) especially when they are arm punches thrown with poor balance like we see in the vid.

The young buck didn't "win because of cardio" per say.  The older kid got tired and worn out from taking clean body punches.  Body punches work even better on the street because you are less likely to injure your hand from the strike.  An unwrapped, ungloved hand can be quite delicate.

Wait, so a 20 yr old walks in off the street and challenges a 15 yr old to a fight, and people take pity on his asshole behavior? Fuck that. If an adult came into my gym and started threatening our kids or challenging them to a fight, that individual would get escorted out immediately and have his head bounced off every hard object on his way out of the door. There is a time and place for tolerance or lending a helping hand, but this type of situation isn't one of them. Phone Post

Someone asked how I knew the older kid would have won a street fight... I dont really know for sure but its obvious he lost due to cardio. In a street fight he would have rocked that 15 year old in the first 3 punches with no gloves and no head gear i believe he would have won but I could be wrong.

Where is the video of this 20 year old challenging a 15 year old? None of us really know what happened. From experience I know for certain that handling this kind of situation this way is not a good idea. I have done this before - I even chased a kid down the street once and beat him up LOL but that was a very long time ago and my ego is much smaller now.

So, dare I say it but this is one thing MMA has lost - the sense of tradition and mentorship that might have come out of that situation. Imagine that same scenario in a kung fu kwoon of the 70s, or a karate dojo of the 80s - they would have tried to teach the kid more, might have given him more acceptance and mentoring.

MMA has lost its way. You can take the "MA" out of it.

I mean no disrespect but I have to wonder how many of you have ever sparred full power with gloves & headgear. Headgear is meant to prevent cuts and gloves protect your hands. If that 20 year old was going to knock him out, he could've done it with gloves and headgear on. Arm punching and no balance is not a general recipe for concussive power punching. The kid got caught a few times but that's part of fighting. He stayed calm and relaxed, weathered the older & bigger man's early rush and beat him. Phone Post

15 year old might have fought differently on the street, too. He was fighting for the ring (and he was awesome).

well I watched the video again the first time I was kind of facebooking and watching netflix and watching the video haha! This time I paid more attention and I have to retract my statement I made about the 15 year old losing in a street fight. I think the 15 year old dominated and I dont think those first couple of shot hurt him at all. It still could have been handled differently.

I remember this one time I was teaching a kung fu class and a guy came in and started laughing about what I was teaching and he challenged me. This poor guy had no idea I was a BJJ black belt and kickboxing instructor. I totally beat the guy up and I really wish I would have handled that differently. I guess you live and learn.

Whether a 20 year old is "a kid" or not depends on your perspective.

My 49-year old self sees two (2) kids fighting in that video.  Niave youngsters.  Wet behind the ears, the both of them.

You are incorrect.  The grouping of three clauses in my sentence was completely acceptable.  My use of a coordinating conjunction in the second prevented a comma splice.  Even if it had been a comma splice, I would not acknowledge an error, as I consider the matter an issue of style choice.  I take no issue with the writer's final comma.

If you cannot see that mess (the original description in question) for what it was, that is your problem.

Nonsense. The use of "his ass" might be ambiguous but the meaning can still be understood from context. Although I will admit that I didn't focus on "his ass" as much Klein did.

As for Klein's strong objection to the possessive form of Allias, there's no grammar error there. It is quite proper to add an extra "s" for the possessive form. Adding the extra "s" is recommended as the preferred method in William Strunk's Elements of Style, plus multiple other sources. See any standard grammar book, e.g.:
http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2013/06/forming-possessives-with-singular-names.html
http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/possessives.htm

But alas, this is incredibly pedantic. I'm done. And for the record I did not start it.

You're done?  That's lucky for you, because this is about to get worse.

You didn't notice the misuse of "his," because apparently your reading comprehension is about as strong as your grasp on grammar.  There was absolutely no ambiguity in his use of the pronoun, it referred directly back to Allias, despite his intention.  This is not complicated.  Here is how the phrase in question would appear minus any dependent clauses or extraneous information:

Allias Aguilar gets challenged by a street fighter and gets his ass beat.

Considering the message he attempted to communicate, this is utter nonsense.  I am not seeing any possible point of confusion.

Also regarding your reading comprehension, I already acknowledged that the rule for forming possessives with names ending with S changes from time to time.  However, that William Strunk wrote a book about style is laughable; the man has about as much style as a gypsy wedding.  Consider the following:

A writer from grammarist.com shares his thoughts:

William Strunk's Elements of Style recommends adding the 's. (In fact, oddly enough, it's Rule Number One in Strunk's "Elementary Rules of Usage.") You will find that some nouns, especially proper nouns, especially when there are other -s and -z sounds involved, turn into clumsy beasts when you add another s: "That's old Mrs. Chambers's estate." In that case, you're better off with "Mrs. Chambers' estate."

I think I am starting to understand your preference.

Furthermore, even if you choose to make such a slovenly choice, here is additional reading  from english.stackexchange.com:

words ending in unstressed /i?z/ are exempt, like for example this series’ end, that species’ demise, Sophocles’, Socrates’, Achilles’, Diomedes’, Archimedes’, Eratosthenes’, Ulysses’.

Did a lightbulb just go off?  Do the above names remind you of anything?  They remind me of the name Allias, also ending in an unstressed syllable, therefore not governed by your misunderstanding of an inconsistent rule.

Now get off my coattails, you unread pleb.

VU Klein, for the dedication to purity of language. But I can't allow your campaign of misinformation to proceed unchallenged, despite my earlier intent.

I suspect that your grade 3 teacher made it sound so easy: “To make a word a possessive, add an ’s, unless the word ends in s, then, just add an apostrophe.” However, by grade 5 the teachers explained that it isn't so simple. But that was too much for you to comprehend. The undisputed fact is that adding an 's after a formal name ending in s is perfectly acceptable (and the more contentious argument is whether it is the preferred method).

As for your example of Sophocles’, Socrates’, Achilles’, Diomedes’, Archimedes’, Eratosthenes’, Ulysses’, there is yet another exception of which you were undoubtedly unaware (this extra exception isn't taught until grade 8). The examples you provided are all "ancient names". Some grammar guides have an exception that allows ancient names ending in s to form the possessive with only an apostrophe (e.g., see Fowler's guide). But there is no consensus for this, and the Chicago Manual of Style still recommends the extra "s", e.g., Zeus's boner. Applying this rule to our buddy Allias does not provide any basis for omitting the extra "s". Our buddy Allias is not in the league of Socrates or Archimedes despite the superficial similarity of the names.

Authority Figure -

The bigger guy landed the first 3-4 shots. W/o headgear on the streets, the smaller kid would have be KO'd, 15 seconds into the fight.

Also, that was gay kicking him out. He had been humbled. He even listend to the coach intently afterwards. it would have made more sense to engage him. Get him off the streets. Rather than feed his own ego.
