I see from a couple other posts that most everyone is favoring Cormier in this fight. I am also favoring him but I think Roy has a better chance than most people give him. I'm hoping this isn't a smother fest by DC but I see that being the most likely and smartest way for him to win. Thoughts on how this fight plays out? Phone Post

dirty boxing against the cage. GnP with wrestling to avoid Roy's subs from the bottom.

Roy Nelson is a black belt. But Roy Nelson is not Frank Mir. DC slams him on his head and beats the shit out of him.

Wrestling, GNP. It will be very difficult to put Roy down standing. Maybe the best chin in MMA. JDS probably still has sore hands. His wrestling and power might give him the edge grappling, even though Roy has better JJ.

Lesnar was dominating the grappling against Francis, for the same reasons.

Also, these two should be fighting at LHW.

I think during this phase of Nelson slimming himself down he's hurting his HW fights. I think he's gonna be too small for Cormier and get taken down. I know DC is not huge himself but he's still an Olympic wrestler.

Once Roy slims down to a good weight to transition to LHW he'll do pretty well. Phone Post 3.0

I'm a big DC fan and this imo, is his most dangerous fight to date because of Roy's chin and crazy KO power. DC can beat him by staying close, pummeling and throwing him around - like he does with everyone. He just has to be careful of Roy's hands.

One of them flashy jump kicks he threw at Mir. This is the only answer.

pidgey - Mir bullied Roy against the cage.
Cormier bullied Mir against the cage.

I know mmath is retarded but in this case it might be true.

Roy has power in his hands though, so it could happen that he catches Cormier at some point and khtfo.
2 short and fat heavyweights going at it.

the Mir math might not work due to Roy is similar physique as Cormier.

I think its easier to clinch cage control if ur shorter due to the fact that it's easier to do underhooks when you're lower than your opponent. Phone Post

"I think its easier to clinch cage control if ur shorter due to the fact that it's easier to do underhooks when you're lower than your opponent. "

The much taller Mir had no trouble controlling Roy in the clinch and against the cage for the duration of their match, and as we saw, Mir was helpless in the clinch and against the cage against Cormier.

Cormier can beat Roy standing with his far superior striking and speed; he can beat him on the ground by taking him down at will and beating him up there as he did to Barnett; or he can beat him by clinching against the cage and dirty boxing as he did Mir.

Roy's only chance is to land his big shot.

Depends on Cormier's approach. I think DC is a better athlete and can win this however he chooses. Roy has totally gotten away from his submission game so DC shouldn't have worry when taking Roy down. If DC is careful and doesn't get caught he should win by UD easily. Phone Post 3.0
