At one time Anthony Pettis was in line to fight Jose Aldo for his featherweight title. Fate changed that and Pettis won the lightweight title, but now Aldo would like that same chance that he gave Pettis:

"Many people talked about moving up (to 155 pounds), and I’ve asked for that," Aldo said. "But Andre (Pederneiras, his coach) and Dana (White) said it wasn’t the right moment. Moving up to lightweight is closer and closer. When they think it’s time to move up, I’ll do it no problem."

"I never chose opponents, but I can say one name now, and it’s Pettis, for all the talk that has happened," he said. "He would be the right person for me to fight today. It would be even better to fight him at lightweight so I wouldn’t need to cut weight (laughs)."

I think that the recent death in Brazil due to weight cutting has kind of spooked many Brazilian fighters to move back to their original (or natural) weight class.

Hasn't Aldo had some troubles with cutting weight?

He had kidney stones in his last fight Phone Post 3.0

More and more fighters are seeing adverse effects of weight cutting.

When you have a wrestling background you are use to the ritual of the weight cut. Even tough there are cases of medical problems and even death in amateur wrestling the competitors are more knowledgeable about the whole process.

When you get someone who has never cut weight trying to lose even a small amount there could be serious effects from the get go if they are not properly educated. You get guys who want to "Bang" because they have an affliction shirt and try to cut a crap load of weight for an ammy bout and doing it the dumb way. They may not die but they will pay for it down the line.

Weight cutting is still in an infantile stage in mma, in boxing, kickboxing and wrestling they have got it down to a science. Not to mention how many more weight classes there are in other combat sports.

Technically speaking, probably the best striking match that would have ever been put together in the UFC, at least at LW.

Both these guys if focused on kickboxing would be right up there imo, Aldo trains with Souwer a lot and Pettis almost signed on to fight in K-1 MAX a few years back.
