Didn't Monte Cox come on here and say Jeremy Horn was confirmed to fight on Battleship?

Maybe it was JHR instead of Monte, but I remember. He was CONFIRMED to be fighting lol.

Is the BATTLESHIP Coming? More news about BATTLESHIP is coming out but met with mixed reactions from insiders. The organizers of this new show that is being put together are working on the apparent plan is to pay the fighters $25,000 to show and compete in a 4-man tournament with the winner getting $250,000.There are big names being thrown around and we have the following RUMORS about the tournaments that promoters are wanting. In the heavyweight division, these four athletes have been named as potential fighters:RODRIGO NOGUIERA JOSH BARNETT MARK COLEMAN DON FRYEThe proposed tournament for the 185lbs tournament is the following:FRANK SHAMROCK PAT MILETICH PHIL BARONI MURILLO BUSTAMANTEWhile this is any MMA fan's dream, we spoke with two of the eight fighters listed above and neither had been contacted about appearing on the show.Baroni and his management have made it clear that their loyalty is with the UFC and want to stay there.Nogueira is a free agent with no exclusive contract with PRIDE or anyone else after the new year.Barnett has restrictions with any group that could fall under jurisdiction in Nevada. If this is pulled off and happens, expect many fighters to step up for a quarter-million dollars on the line.Source: ADCC

From www.mmaweekly.com :
[b:c8d134783b]MMAWeekly was the first website to report a month ago about a new promotion that is promoting a card called "Battleship". We told you that there would be a heavyweight tournament and middleweight tournament, as well as a few of the fighters who would be competiting. We now have updated information.

MMAWeekly's Scott Peterson is reporting Murilo Bustamante will be headlining the middleweight tournament. The current UFC Middleweight Champion has not signed a contract with the UFC and it looks like he will now compete in the Battleship middleweight tournament. The rest of field is a star studded cast. As we told you last month, Frank Shamrock and Pat Miletich will be competiting. A couple of new names to add to the mix is Matt Lindland, and it looks like there could be negotiations with Phil Baroni! The interesting part about this equation is the fact that all of the fighters in the middleweight division have fought in the UFC and all of the fighters ARE NOT currently under UFC contracts. This is defintely huge news.

As far as the heavyweights go a couple of Pride Champions will be featured. MMAWeekly has learned that Minotauro Nogueira is close to a deal to fight in Battleship. Peterson also reports former Pride Champion Mark Coleman will compete as well as Don Frye and possibly Josh Barnett. No matter how you slice it, this could be one of the biggest cards ever if they can finish signing the big names to big deals. MMAWeekly can also confirm that this event will be shown on pay per view. The date was orginially scheduled for January, but that date could change especially if it's the same weekend as the Super Bowl. Stay tuned.[/b:c8d134783b]

From mmaweekly:

"It looks as though the promotion Battleship, that hasn't even hosted an event yet, has landed there first fighter. MMAWeekly.com has learned that it appears Jeremy Horn has signed a contract and will be part of the Light Heavyweight Tournament. "

Lol I remember that whole thing now that you mention it. I never figured out if the entire thing was a big troll, or if it was some dumbass crazy promoter who thought he would start hyping it before he had anyone on board. (Get it? Anyone "on board"). Phone Post

From what I remember, here on the UG we never believed it to be true. The names were just too big and the money was just too much for the time.

Like I said before, the one thing that really got us thinking was when someone with a good reputation on this site came here to the UG and said Jeremy Horn was CONFIRMED to be fighting on BATTLESHIP.

Other than that, it was never taken seriously here, but MMAWeekly and other MMA journalist sites reported it like it was a sure thing.

Ryan bennet (rip) was the first to report it on mma weekly radio back in the day. Art Davies was one of the guys behind it. It was banned in so many states back I. The dark days , they thought about holding fights on a battle ship to get around state laws. Fry Ruas , belfort , Coleman , ken shamrock all rumoured to be on this super card. Shortly after a new promotion in Japan started called pride fc . All of those fighters joined the organization. Phone Post 3.0
