This Saturday at UFC 166, former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos fights UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez in a rubber match, live on Pay Per View.

In his lastest blog, current UFC on Fox analyst, color commentator for UFC on FX and UFC on Fuel TV, and former UFC featherweight, lightweight, welterweight and middleweight Kenny Florian offers dos Santos some free advice.

The first fight didn’t last long... The second fight was very different. Velasquez used forward pressure, head movement, wrestling and a brutal pace to beat up JDS for 25 minutes.

The key to the success of JDS will be his footwork. Dos Santos must stay mobile and circle to his right to avoid that Velasquez right hand that dropped him in Round 1 of the rematch. As he circles, he needs to keep his hands high and mix in feints to confuse Cain.

JDS also needs to utilize the jab to keep Cain on the outside. By utilizing the jab, dos Santos can keep Cain on the outside and force him to take bad takedown attempts from the outside. The jab will also help JDS get off one of his favorite strikes: the right cross.

Cain combines his second and third attacks very well to help finish his takedowns moving from high crotch to double leg to body lock takedowns. Cain does this best when he has room to drive through his opponents in the center of the cage. It is very important that dos Santos counter those takedowns when Cain does get in on his legs.

Another important tactic that will help dos Santos is circling close to the cage... With the cage at dos Santos’ back, Cain will run out of room to finish his style of takedowns. Being the larger, stronger man, dos Santos also needs to use the Octagon to rest and pace himself.

Finally, it is important that JDS look to strike to the body.... If JDS throws jabs and crosses to the sternum or stomach of Velasquez, it makes changing levels and takedowns harder for the champion. Knowing that it is highly unlikely for Velasquez to tire on his own, body shots are a great way to take the energy away from even the most conditioned fighters. Staying at eye level with the shorter Velasquez will also help his chances. It will force Cain to change levels even lower and as we know in MMA, every millisecond counts for reaction time.

If you were on Junior dos Santos' coaching staff, what advice would you give 'Cigano', besides the obvious advice to just side step him?

KOdClowning - People forget, it was JDS' ground game that allowed him to defeat Fabricio Werdum. JDS used his BJJ to outstrike Werdum. If Werdum did not respect JDS' ground game, he would have shot continuously until he sunk in the takedown. Nonetheless, he had to respect JDS' submissions off of his back, one thing all bjj fighters excel at, especially McBlackbelts.

Since Werdum respected JDS' ground wrestling, he was FORCED to strike with JDS. JDS used his boxing to finish off what his grappling started. Werdum could not grappled with JDS because JDS' boxing was too quick. JDS used his bjj in reverse to strikeout Fabricio Werdum.

Jimmy,

I think it was more of a case of Dos Santos not respecting Werdum's standup game, he went for it knowing Werdum wasn't as fast or aggressive.

Wait why am I talking to Jimmy Rustler...

I like JDS's plan in the countdown: "I'm going to put very hard punches to his face."

Bad advice imo. JDS didn't forget how to jab in the first fight. Cain cut him off and constantly threatened with level changes. Every time JDS adjusted, Cain closed the distance or stepped out to launch his overhand right into the clinch.
Also keeping his back to the fence is exactly how Cain cut JDS off.

I agree JDS needs to keep Cain on the end of his jab, but if he's circling right it should be with the intention of taking the center and counterpunching. Playing the body game isn't bad advice, but only if it's on the outside or he's going to get baited into that high crotch. Cigano needs to establish some low kicks and uppercuts to keep Cain honest imo Phone Post

Not sure what Kenny is going on about... How about - punch him in the face?

That 5 round dance-a-thon made for a great show, and JDS showed his super-human abilities by continuing to get up after taking Cain's best for five rounds, but the true outcome of this matchup happened in the first go.

It was interesting to see the frustration in Cain's face when he kept going after Junior and Junior just kept taking it and getting up. ...knowing how Cain could not even take one.

Cain is an awesome fighter. Second best hands down - him and Cormier. But as Frank Mir would say, Junior is a stud.

I want Junior to win but Cain's game plan will likely be similar to last fight and Junior simply can't defend against it - short of another early KO.

Cain is too explosive compared to Junior and will constantly pressure while Cigano simply won't be able keep him off.
