Just found this site - http://openstaxcollege.org/

OpenStax is a non-profit organization that offers free pdf textbooks (college-level) and other free tools. Their mission is to make higher education available to everyone. It's sponsored by Rice University, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, among others.

The books are constantly edited and revised by professors across the country. I've been studying Anatomy & Physiology and their book is better organized and written than books that cost me $200.

Anyway, I thought this was a great initiative and just wanted to spread the word.

someone should do this with real books. somewhere that you can go and borrow books while you need them, and return them so that others can also use them.

One of the huge benefits of this is that if a professor chooses to use one of these books, students don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on a textbook that will be obsolete by next year.

They also have a flash card app that lets you add individual sections from the books. It'd be easier if you could add whole chapters but I can't complain - it's all free.

It's called QuizCards and it's made by their partner organization Connexions, if anyone is interested. Phone Post

No. For online courses I'd recommend Coursera or any of the sites listed here - http://www.quora.com/Massive-Open-Online-Courses-MOOC/What-are-some-websites-similar-to-Coursera

If any of you guys like OpenStax - spread the word. They've only been around since last year and could use the push. They've got some pretty big names backing them but publicity is everything.
