Depends on how you define "worst".

For instance, there are some coaches that had great teams when they had great talent, yet mediocre teams with mediocre talent. Some coaches couldn't win with anyone. Yet there were some coaches that found some great success, but were really just riding the wave of the coach before them.

Barry Switzer and George Sieffert come to mind on the last one.

I'm a lifelong Bears Fan and what he did with the talent he had was criminal. I mean the sumbitch should have been put in Cook County Jail and beat with chains. I H A T E that bastard.

either Marty Mornhinweg or Bobby Petrino

quitting on the team with 3 games to go was really bad, but I think winning the coin toss in overtime and electing to kick off places Marty in a very special class

while Lane was certainly shitty, I'm not sure you could actually call him the coach of the Raiders, at least not in the traditional sense where the coach has control over the game decisions. Lane had zero control over the defense while with the Raiders, and he was basically a glorified offensive coordinator. The defense was taken out of his control by Al, and basically it was Rob Ryan carrying out Al Davis' plans of a defense that refused to blitz and always was in man-to-man coverage, despite what Kiffin wanted. I don't think anyone could be a good coach in those circumstances.

can't really say that about siefert. he won a superbowl 6 years after walsh with ony 1 guy being a starter under both he and walsh and that was rice. no starter or key player on defense was on the roster when walsh was the coach. 11 total starters on offense and defense were not even in the nfl yet when walsh retired. siefert doesn't get the credit he deserves. he took a walsh team and took them back to the super bowl and one and then he took a team he molded with all different players and won
