2 split decisions last night that should have had a decisive winner. One went to the proper fighter (Lawler) and the other did not (Hendricks)

The 10 point must system is the reason those fights were even close. In the Rory - Lawler fight, Lawler did far more in the last round than either fighter did in the first round combined. And yet, one judge saw it 2 rounds to 1 for Rory, and I can't even argue that is is very wrong given the way fights were scored.

In the main event, Hendricks dominated a couple rounds, and yet 2 judges saw it 1-3-5 for GSP. And again, it isn't even that crazy of a results (well, it is still pretty crazy)

They need to update the scoring system somehow, the 10 point must system is crap

The 10-9 scoring system doesn't work with MMA. There has to a better way to differentiate between a round like Hendricks' 2nd and GSP's 5th. Rory's 2nd round and Robbie Lawler's 3rd. They were not 10-8 rounds but they were not your average 10-9 either. It's a broken system. One point is just too valuable in a 3 round fight.

If they continue with the 10-9 scoring system, they need to implement open scoring. I really believe it would work well with MMA.

If they used 10-10, 10-8 and 10-7 scores correctly, the system could work, but its basically 10-9 unless one guy is a cunt hair from being finished then they will make it 10-8.

I completely agree. Both were clear winners and one almost lost and the other did.

I was going to make the se thread. Phone Post 3.0

I was also thinking about Pride rules and how these fights are no brain era on that system. Phone Post 3.0

Also with three rounds, or even 5, there is not enough data points to treat them discretely. Boxing obviously has way more rounds, and also much clearer method for 10 - 8 via the knockdown. It works for boxing but not MMA.

Fights should be judged as a whole but on the same criteria. That would solve it. Phone Post 3.0

It's not a problem with the scoring.
The judges weren't even watching those fights.
The problem is that GSP is sort of like the Mayweather AND Pacquiao of MMA. The biggest PPV draw, that is. That earns him the privileged of a fix decision or two. It's about keeping the sport alive and profitable.
