Had a decent health plan at a reasonable price through employer. Then a month ago, we were told that our premiums were going to go up 400% for the same coverage (healthy man in 30's, no dependents). Now, just before our enrollment period began, employer (relatively large company) decides not to offer any coverage starting in 2014. Got letter today telling us to go to healthcare.gov website for future health coverage.

Faced with dilemma to either attempt to enroll through that website (hell no...at least not now), try to find a private co-operative to enroll in that caters to freelancers in my profession (pay out the nose), or just thumb nose at the IRS and pray I don't get sick/injured. Couldn't imagine if I had a family how hard that choice would have to be. Hard enough without that complicating things.

Seems you have more of a problem with a shitty employer than Obamacare. Phone Post 3.0

No, I completely blame Obamacare. Without it, I would still have the same coverage. I don't blame my company for doing what they did. They shouldn't have to help foot the bills of people that are not of their concern, just like I shouldn't.

I wonder how much pressure Washington will put on companies to not send out those same letters right before election day 2014.

There will be incentives offered in backrooms.. we will never know.

This will never happen. Government never relinquishes power once it has obtained it especially when it is so freely offered to them. They will amend it five million times and you will need a legal specialist to guid you through it much like many need CPAs and accountants to get thier taxes done.

Welcom to Idiocracy.

Plus, even if there was the political will in Congress, they would have to have enough votes to override a POTUS veto of any repeal of the law.

If the Democrats don't get rid of the ACA early next year they are going to get beaten during the mid-term elections in a brutal fashion.  I think they know this.  I don't think the ACA is long for this world.

I would be interested in reading Ridgeback's thoughts on healthcare. Shouldn't a single-payer healthcare system and Orthodoxy go together like peanut butter and jelly? (Not that the ACA counts)...

I wish this was true but unfortunately our country has become a country of foggybottoms. They really dont care as long as they are promised they will get theirs they will keep voting for the ones that make the biggest bestest promises.

Only the dems in "red' states have to worry about this and I do not think there are more than one or two dozen of them and you can betat least half of those states will just vote them back in because "hell, why not".

Can you tell me what other industrialized nation has adopted the same monstrosity we have here in the States?

Meanwhile I will tell you about the likes of Franc and Italy that has actually been moving to a more privatized system.

No way in hell does Obama abandon ACA now. Otherwise, he would have a long time ago. What scenario could you possibly see where Congress would have enough votes to override a POTUS veto? That rarely happens anymore, no matter who is in office.

As a poor black male... ACA has been a lifesaver for me. The white bitch I wifed up works part-time at the supermarket, fucking us out of medicaid. I knocked her up a while back and we had to go to free clinics for doctor visits, etc. Now we're going to be rocking a gold-rated plan for $160 a month, and they're not going to deny us because she's got a bun in the oven.
