QuinTheEskimo - You may consider checking out the strength and conditioning ground. Liftordie has a few videos of him moving enough weight that I will probably never even insult him over the internet for fear that he might hulk smash an entire state. Its pretty inspiring.

Plus there are guys like leigh, vermonter, and taku who are always laying down great advice. You will be pleased I am sure to know that they speak highly of the 5/3/1 method. Phone Post 3.0
I appreciate the vote of confidence, bit I think JHams is the resident state smasher. Phone Post 3.0

Thanks THN. I'm looking to hit 1000 in the big three by early next year while staying at 165.

Kyle Keough hit 1355 at 148lbs last year. His deadlift is up to 601 now but I haven't seen his total since then. I'd be thrilled to death with a 1300 total. Phone Post 3.0

I can't hook grip. I don't know if I have stubby thumbs or short fingers, or if I'm just a pussy that can't handle the pain of it, but god damn I can't do it. Phone Post 3.0

Thoughts on High Intensity Training? I've done it for 6 months and am looking pretty good. HIT is one rep to failure for those who don't know. I do 8-20 reps depending on the exercise. I do 3 days a week total body workout.

It probably isn't the ideal if you are training for Mr. Olympia, but for me who just wants to have some strength and look good, it is working well. You can't beat the time saved by not doing high volume 5 times a week. Phone Post 3.0

I have gigantic hands and can't hook grip either. I wouldn't worry about it unless you plan on doing heavy Olympic lifts. Phone Post 3.0

I tried lifting weights but stopped because they were too heavy.

Forget that hook grip. My thumbs feel like I smashed them with a hammer. Never again.

I guess I'll be doing heavy rack pulls to up my grip strength. Phone Post 3.0

TryhardNobody - Ever try deadlifting off blocks? I saw a video of George Leeman working his grip, he loads the bar up heavy as shit and has it up on blocks so he only pulling it 6 inches or so. Then he just stands there and holds it. Good way to get your grip strong enough to hold heavy weight
That's exactly the same thing as rack pulls. Phone Post 3.0

I'm using Wendler's 5/3/1. I'm on week thirteen, I think.

My goal is to compete in a raw meet early next year and total over 1100 at 165lbs. If I can pull 450, squat 400, and bench 250 I'll be happy.

I don't know how feasible that is, but that's my goal. I'm making awesome gains right now, but I know I'll slow down soon. I posted on the elitefts ask a question board, and asked if I should slow down. Right now I'm doing all four lifts of 5/3/1 on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays. Matt Rhodes told me that I should ride the lightning and keep at it. I figure my body will let me know when it's time to slow down. Phone Post 3.0

One of the benefits of being a young lifter and especially being small, is a quicker recovery time. Keep doing what your doing. The possibility of someone with your lifting experience "overtraining" is slim to none. If you do plateau, which is probably a long way off, you could go to doing each lift twice a week and up the intensity and volume on those days, but for now, stick with what's working. Phone Post 3.0

Uhh, you win THN lol. I can only put 540lbs on my bar because I have an odd number of five pound plates. I couldn't do it without straps :( Phone Post 3.0
